The technician advised me it could damage the seals. :notsure: Time will tell.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
THIS is why you grease the driveshaft u-joints. Now, change the rear diff to synthetic oil around 5k and you may be on your way to driving a 300k+ truck. Congrats!

That guy is a moron. Do you really think he knows more than the inventor/manufacturer of the u-joint? Has everyone been lubing u-joints incorrectly the last 100 years, and thank God we finally have this genius to thank?

    Yeah. Right.

Had my 5K service last week and asked them to turn off the seatbelt chime. Took less than an hour, no questions asked about the chime and very nice place to do business.
This is not the place I bought the truck.

Seal damage occurs when an air operated grease gun is used. Too much pressure can blow the seals out. You would be hard pressed to do that using a hand operated grease gun. The air needs to get pushed out of whatever you're greasing or you'll end up with an air cavity and no pressure on the grease to do its job. So the tech was somewhat correct, but should know better than to apply high pressure.

Went up to the dealership to test drive a 6 speed. Not in the configuration I want but just to get a feel for how the tranny drives. Staff has been working with me for the last 6 months trying to find the right truck for me and I have no complaints so far. They even found a truck in my configuration today and it should be here in 3 months.

You think these trucks will fall apart at 300k miles? Challenge accepted, I'll be modding this truck til the day it's heart stops and then I'll transplant the diesel in that it should have received in the first place!

Wouldn't you get one faster if you just put an order in from the factory? I put an order in and my truck was quoted at 8 weeks delivery, yet was delivered 6 weeks later

    2010 trd sport, 60.000 miles

I have been at the dealership several times, last time was yesterday. I've been there for TSB's, recalls, warranty repairs and maintenance. I don't remember the dates, so I can't pin point the service in between, but I remember the order.
    • Replace the gas pedal with a short on. Recall
    • Replace rear window seal. Water leak. Warranty.
    • Replace all window seals. Warranty.
    • Replace fan motor. Warranty.
    • Dealership lied about rotating the tires in one of the big maintenance services. Changed dealerships.
    • Replace fan motor again. Warranty.
    • Replace warped front disks. Warranty.
    • Replace front grill after it got scratched during one of the services.
    • Changed dealerships.
    • Rear spring . TSB
    • Replace fan motor (again). Warranty
    • Replace radio. Warranty. They managed to drop a bolt or a socket inside the vents, still there. You can hear it rolling when you turn or brake. It drives me nuts but there is no way I'm letting them to remove the dash.
    • Replace headlights. Warranty.
    • Yesterday, 60k service they managed to do a bunch of scratches in the inner fender.
    • I'm still waiting on a solution for the rear spring recall.
All I can say is that I like the truck but that I'm totally disappointed. I contacted Toyota, asking if the have certified people to work on the vehicles. Their answer was, yes, any Toyota dealership. After all the problems that I went through and we all know by now that they are NOT. I am officially done with the dealerships.

I know that a lo of you will say: For god sakes, it's a truck. Since I can not afford to have a car and a truck to carry tools, my truck is like a car for me but with a big trunk.

I told my Toyota mechanic to check on the greasing/lubing of the u-joints to be sure they were packed/greased properly. I was told by him that the new 2016 drive shafts/u-joints are now internally sealed (no zerk fittings). Any of you aware of this?

I think that is only true for 2x4 2016 models. I believe all 4x4s have grease fittings on their U joints. Easiest way to prove him right/wrong is to crawl under there and check.

That is one clean truck El Tano! You must get under it and scrub it clean. Looks like you just drove it off the lot. Cleanest truck I've ever seen that's more than a year old.

I can't honestly say one way or another for 100% certainty, but based on my experience at that dealership the other day, I would say they are more willing to look into things and spend time/money on fixing problems that in the back of their head they may deem imaginary.

HOWEVER... I think one of you guys asked for the service ticket I recieved on this thread, and after looking at it, there is no u-joints greasing listed on the ticket. I'm still not sure if that's something they've simply added to the 1000km vehicle inspection (from what I understand, that's a 27 point inspection?)

I'm emailing the dealership right now to ask. Here is a picture of the service ticket for whoever wanted to see20160307_090505.jpg

    That's pretty amazing.......$24.95

I didn't think you could even drive onto a Toyota lot, for $24.95, much less, get anything done ? I'm obviously going to the wrong dealership !

Ohhhhh but I didn't actually pay for that! :D I looked at the service tech and said "you're not charging me for these wiper blades, you didn't even ask if I wanted new ones"

To which he replied "no of course not, they're complimentary" (translation: the pillaging will not start for another 3 months)

Also not sure why the picture is so blurry, it's perfectly readable on my phone. Lower quality upload it looks like...

Well they basically do nothing except check your floor mats and make sure your wheels are still tight. It's the same courtesy visit in the States at 600 miles. Not really service, just a few inspections and off you go. OP's dealer washes your truck, if you want.

I bought my truck from that dealer and got a crazy deal that no one could come close to. Staff was friendly. Buuuuut now my leafs are squeaking really bad so I called and made an appointment. Had my moms bring it down for me while I was at work and they told her they could not hear a squeak. Fair enough, so I brought it down a second time and had one of the techs there come out and confirm the squeak. Nice kid, confirmed the squeak and said he wanted to get it on the hoist as soon as possible. So I made another appointment and again had my moms bring it down while I was at work and again they came out and told her there was no squeak. So basically I'm just waiting for it to get really bad and bring it down again myself. I had a really good experience buying the truck but having to go down there a third time is super inconvenient and I'm going to have to take a day off work because of this.
