Ohhh. I'm not extremely worried about the cable but a shifting tailgate doesn't sound good at all. Any pictures of the damage you had? Thanks for the heads up.

 

I've seen newer ones with what appears to be a cable weight or some sort of isolator on the cable to help keep it in place and not get crimped by the assist arm. There's a few DIY articles online that may be worth trying out. This is the first I've heard about shifting the tailgate though. Just my 2 cents..

I don't have enough knowledge to really answer that question properly since I went with what a buddy suggested and used google to look into it before going to the shop. With that being said, from what I've read, more caster will make your car handle more stable at higher speeds. For me, I wanted more caster for 2 reasons:

1) I'm running 285/75/16 Toyo Open Country AT2s which are ~15 heavier than the stock tires. Having higher caster helps keep the truck running straight on the freeway with the added weight and size of the tires (truck is somewhat a daily driver doing about 50-60 miles per day mostly freeway).
2) because I'm running basically 33s, the higher caster helps push the tires away from the rear of my fenders. I did the CMC but it was the plastic fender liners that I was rubbing on. When the tech put caster within spec, I was rubbing like crazy close to full lock and needed to cut away more plastic but after he readjusted it to 4+ degrees, no more rubbing.

Started De-badging my tailgate, peeled the dealer's sticker off, and, thanks to CBoy808, I'm now officially "Mall rated"! Hey, I get accused of being a Mall crawler, so I might as well make it official!
Also ordered the metal tailgate liner and cap from Mobtown offroad.

 

And I'm over 40 miles from the nearest Mall, too!

 

@Skrain and @scottalot, do you guys know if that cap works with the KB VooDoo tailgate (top) cap?!
