2016 Tacoma Double Cab Audio Install Build

OP, how did you route the wiring from your amp to the tweeters/mids?

 

Ran the wires down the sides under the panels. Lots of room in there. Ran from the back to the tweeter locations in the dash. At the tweeter I cut the existing tweeter and mid wires and tapped into them there. There are four wires at the tweeter. Two are coming from the deck and two go to the door. I used the factory wiring at the doors.

I'm in the process of overhauling the sound system on my 16' too with some JL C5 Components and coax with JL HD amps. I get dealer price at JL so thats why JL Audio. Couple of questions:
1. From which side do you remove the power windows controls in order to pop it out? I dont know if it is all clips or is there is a fixed part and clips.
2. How to remove the tweeter covers in the dash? I have no idea from which side to remove them for not breaking any clips.

I do builds every 5 years or so, and every time I regret trying to force a stock unit to be something it is not. HOWEVER, technology is increasing, maybe I'll consider OEM integration again for the 2016 Tacoma build...

Say, do you know what your input speaker levels are? The bit10 accepts up to 15 volts.. thx

 

Maybe I missed it but garyinok can you post more information about your box? If you built it do you have measurements you could post? I'm looking to do something similar to you and was originally thinking of using two Sundown SD3-10's instead of the 8".

 

what color wires in the back of the entune (nonJBL) HU connect to the LOC????

 

Can you send specs of box? Starting 16 Tacoma audio build and fur the only other person that seem to think 8s were a good idea as well!

 

8s and 10s are a really good fit for the tacoma's.
Music preference will determine ported vs sealed as well as tuning and building skill. Id i did 8s they would 100% be ported. 10s would be sealed as it would be hard to get 2.5cf for general porting terms

 

does anyone have step by step photos or walk through of the install of the (2) metra Harnesses going into a 2016 NON JBL Entune HU and out to the LOC then to the amp and subs. I am not the brightest w/ car audio this would make things much easier for me as opposed to searching and finding wires a ton behind this entune HU when i pull it out. Thanks.

 

The only pics I have of the box are what is on the thread already. I will see if I can find the drawings I used and post them up too, but no promises. As far as the 8s I can tell you after running these for a time that not only are a pair of 8's a good idea, they are in my humble opinion the only idea for the space available in this truck. So many get hung up on this preconceived notion that sub's start at 10" and only get better as you make them bigger and add more. It's again in my humble opinion, nonsense. I went 8's because that is the what the space allowed me. I went two because that is what best fit the amp I was powering them with. Plain and simple the right speaker for the right application gives the best performance. I think it is more of a machismo thing with guys more than anything. The guy that tuned my system, who makes his business out of building $20K systems, was totally blown away by just a pair of eights. So I wouldn't hold back from a good quality set of eights, although I would tell you that you need good power and good signal to go with them.

I've been looking at a lot of brands of 8's. Did u compare yours to the JL Audio W7s?

 

On the processor I am running the Audison BitOne. Lot of good processors out there, but since I was running Audison amps and speakers (Hertz, but they are part of Audison), I went with the BitOne. Very pleased with it. The one thing I would say is stay away from the line out converter. They are cheap, but you get what you pay for. As far as the other brands of 8's that is a tough one. It is hard finding a good 8" sub these days. I also looked at quite a few, but the Sundown were just hands down the best I could find, and that is not even taking into account the price point. There were quite a few high end drivers (Morell, Focal) with specs that didn't even come close to the Sundown. I was even hedging because I couldn't wrap my head around the power handling and frequency response for an 8 at this price point. But man when I fired them up they just blew me away. And I was coming from a Focal 33KX 13". As far as the JL Audio, to be honest I never even looked at JL Audio. I have had quite a bit of their stuff over the years, but for the most part have never really been all that impressed. I have a whole pile of Fosgate, Alpine, and JL stuff just collecting dust. I hear the W series is pretty good, but it's really hard to say without looking at the system as a whole.

 

I tried to convert the drawings to something I could post here. This is probably not all the dimensions, but enough to get started with.

Your top width is 4 5/16s if I'm not mistaking. Did you put a spacer at the top of the seat push in bracket ?

Actually no spacer. The box does not go all the way up to the top. I designed it to stay under the vents, so that top surface is just below the vent. There is quite a bit of room as you go down the wall.

 

Darn, I really want to see all the dims, but can't make some of them out! I'll try another computer with hopefully better resolution.. OR, I'll mark it up and post!
