Count me in on a camping run.

That is amazing that you were the only ones up at Sloquet. I've done that loop quite a few times myself. Was there any snow up there? I've been up there in everything from the snow to the pissing rain and there's always people up there just as crazy as we are. I wanted to go to Skookumchuck over the weekend but all of my friends couldn't make it and the GF didn't want to leave the house on the weekend as she just had surgery today (the good kind ;) ) and she wanted some time at home to prepare herself.

The last time I was up at Sloquet was the weekend before Christmas. There was a good foot of snow and it snowed another 6-8" on us overnight. We came in from the Harrison side and I was plowing fresh tracks for about half the way. Definitely made the drive more interesting than it already is.

I think it was probably because we were there on a sunday night, as neither of us had to work on monday. There was no snow anywhere on the drive (other than some in whistler), and just light showers. rained pretty hard over night though, but not too hard to light a fire! Neither of us had actually never been before, so it was an awesome adventure! we definitely want to go back! as well as check out keyhole and meager.

we are always down for a trip! let me know if you want somebody to go with!

Ah yes, I'm usually just a weekend warrior and always end up fighting with the crowds at Sloquet. The springs get insanely busy during the peak season (as you can imagine). If I'm going for a weekend I usually try and take a Friday off work to ensure I get a camping spot. I've been meaning to check out Keyhole Hotsprings myself. From talking with friends I've gathered that you cannot camp with your vehicle like Sloquet. You have to hike down into the campsites. I think we are going to go for a day soak in the pools and camp somewhere else close by.

There's actually no way to get a vehicle into Meager Creek Hot Springs anymore.

    Source

Quite unfortunate, from what I heard it was one of the nicest springs in BC.

What is the length/width of the rolling bins? and where did you source them?

Yeah it is unfortunate... my wife and i really enjoy hiking/backpacking, so that's why we were interested in those ones. Though we also had the same thought of finding some other place to camp, and just doing a day hike in. apparently meager is still really nice, and has a weird desolate vibe to it according to a friend who was there last year. I've seen that website (actually, the whistlerhiatus version) before, lots of really good info on there!

The way you are able to transport motorcycle and boat is genius. :). Like your woodworking skills. Thanks for the pics of the back of the cab and how you took your seats out. Very helpful. I also like the reflective tarp your using. Very cool!

I'm glad you're chronicling your build. So many well executed value added projects!

Well it looks like I'll have to add aftermarket front bumper higher on my list of "future mods".

I scored a free ARB bumper today. My buddy works at a body shop and texted me this morning asking if I wanted this bumper otherwise it was going to the metal scrapyard.

    image.jpg

It is a 2005-2011 model, with no fog light cutouts.
It is damaged on the driver side and needs some love with a torch and a BFH, possibly alsos needing some cutting and welding of some new plates.
    image.jpg image.jpg
I don't have any metal working equipment myself so I'm going to get a local 4x4 metal fabricator do his magic. I'm pretty confident it can be repaired, so is the fabricator I've already been in contact with. It will also need to be re-powered coated once it's repaired. I'll have to pay for the repairs and powder coating but considering I'm into this currently for $0 I think it will work out to be a great deal. This model bumper would cost me $1600 CAN new right now with the way our Canadian dollar is sitting right now.

I'm considering adding cutouts for fog lights, possibly even reusing my stock fog lights if that's possible.
I'm also actually kind of glad this is a 2005-2011 model as it doesn't stick out as far as the proper year. From what I've gathered so far it requires a little bit of cutting to make it fit but it is definitely possibly to fit this onto a 2012-2015 model truck.

I have that exact bumper on my 05 taco, i think it can be retrofitted on your model, if you can bring it back to life, it's a SUPER stout bumper..

Btw thanks for the write up, buddy had a piece of plywood that we only had to trim an inch off of just laying around. 5/8 " or so. Tomorrow the slides should get here and I'll hard mount it in the truck hopefully right in this empty spot

I know it can be done, requires some cutting on the bumper and the truck though.

@crazy joker has a 2005-2011 model ARB bumper on his 2014 DCLB. Here are some photos from his build thread. His is the model with fog light cutouts. I think it looks great.

    image.jpgimage.jpg

I'm hoping he does a write up of how he made it fit soon :boink: :help:

Nice find on the bumper! I'd do exactly like @crazy joker he's got some very slick original mods. That bumper would provide better approach angle...

Congrats on the free bumper! Looks like I have a reason to do a write up tonight or tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Man nice score! That's awesome! That will definitely take your truck to the next level. Do you plan on putting a winch in it?

Eventually I'll add a winch, but not right away.

Even without a winch this bumper is heavy AF. I will need to do something to the front suspension to handle the additional weight. Eventually I'd like to do a 3" suspension lift with OME springs/leafs and shocks and new UCA's. Unfortunately that isn't in the cards for me right now. I think I might add some Bilstein 5100's to the front for now and set them at 0.85 to compensate for the bumper sag. I'll see how that works out and how I like the ride. I might end up replacing the stock springs with something stiffer if the ride is garbage.

I would just save and do it how you want the first time around. You'll save money in the long run. I have ome all around with Dakar's and 887 up front, with spc lr uca's. its such an improvement over stock. Took off my sway bar and it's a huge difference on logging roads. I'm not too into rock crawling or anything, so it's good for me.

took me a while to save up, but it was worth it every time we go camping or load up the back
