Sound is subjective. I think the stock note is alright, and it's definitely light years ahead of the fart can tuner exhausts.

Sure it's not the V8 rumble and roar, but it's not bad either.

Drop in kn filter is what i did. The exhaust sounds pretty good stock. Now if we could get our hands on a superchips ecu and tranny tuner....thats what these trucks could really benefit from.

I don't think it's fair to call it an Atkinson engine...

    well that was unnecessary

I am going to go with the drop in K&N as well

I bought a K&N for my 98 Taco when it was new and when I traded the 98 for my 01 I swapped the K&N for the new OEM before I left the lot.

I have read some postings where some have said it takes a while for it to save money, well... I only bought one air filter in 18 years, the K&N paid for itself many times over.

    I see you own a 2010, do you also own a 2016 ?

The reason I ask is because you sure do post a lot in the 3rd gen section, and yes it is an open forum for anyone to post in, I understand that. I`m not trying to telling you what to do.

If you do not own a3rd Gen, you sure do seem to know a lot about something you don`t own and a lot of what I have read has been negative.

Therefore, I can`t help but to wonder if you are an engineer or a mechanic for Toyota or are you just playing one on the internet ?

Thanks for letting me and everyone know that you think you got everything all figured out. I could dispute a lot of the comments that you have said about intakes and exhaust but I know I would only be wasting my time therefore I wont bother.

And you are correct, I don`t have to read your comments.

Toyota specifically tuned the intake of the v6 truck to work with the Atkinson cycle of the engine. I would think twice about modifying it. Look up the Prius and see the intake is very specific to the engine

You won't feel any true performance gains until you do exhaust, intake, AND headers. And even then it could be damaging to your vehicle without a tune. The motors are tuned to have a certain degree of back pressure to run. If you eliminate that, it could cause future problems. Also, the resonator is there for a reason, it is to take the turbulence out of your intake as well as reduce air vibrations going into your motor. Last but not least, I would value @Rock Lobster and what he says. Been on here for a while and knows a lot.

i will say its an ugly looking motor. Its very unbalanced looking. The intake manifold is only over the driver side head. Nothing is really on the pass side of the motor and it just looks weird

There's a ton more room under the hood on this truck than others I've seen. Almost like it was built to stick a lot larger engine in there but someone changed their minds.
