yea i do the frame swaps at my work and i just take the body off and then take the motor and trans and set it on two oil barrels then swap everything to the new frame, if i work on it and dont be lazy and stroke it out i can do it in a day and the next morning align it

My 05 is at the dealer awaiting parts for the frame swap. Almost 2 months now...Are the control arms replaced with the frame swap. Mine were pretty rusty.

I had my truck sprayed with CRC over a year ago and before I had it done, there was a thread I followed about this procedure. A post on that thread had an attachment from Toyota, that someone copied and showed a document with the exact procedure they should follow when doing the LSC. It stated that there is a plug kit that should be used on the frame holes.

After they did my LSC with the CRC application. I noticed they had not installed any plugs on the frame, so I had the service manager come out and look at it. After looking at it, he went back inside to get a technician. The technician went under my truck and installed some plugs. He didn't install any plugs on the frame under the front wheel wells, so i ask him, why he didn't and he said "they don't need plugs". I noticed that the newer Tacoma's all come with those 6 plugs. Toyota has never given me an answer to that question, when I know the newer Tacoma's had them install to prevent corrosion to the interior frame.

I bought the 6 plugs from Toyota and they were about $30. I know for a fact that dirt/salt, that is sprayed from the front tires, enter those holes and travel down the interior of the frame rail and then sprays across the undercarriage. Just to prove it, I sprayed my garden hose through the holes under the front wheel wells, then went under the truck and the water sprayed through the holes, went right down the interior frame rail, then out some drain holes, with the rest spilling out where the "c" rail starts and this water, when moving would get sprayed on the rest of that frame rail. I see no purpose for those holes under front wheel wells frame, unless they were there to lift the frame when assembling the truck, so I would block all of them. I still plan on blocking the 2 smaller holes, under each front wheel well frame too, with either silicone caulking or maybe fill them with the wax from a toilet ring.

I went under my Tacoma this weekend to change the oil and lube the chassis. I noticed one of the drain holes under the chassis, where a drain plug added wasn't seated right and it looked like there were bubbling of the CRC around it. I removed the drain plug and found that they used a round plug for a rectangular holes, which didn't fit properly, looking like it was forced into the hole with the wrong plug. It was wet around the hole and the CRC coating around it came off easily, was wet with rust. The other drain plug on the other side looked good, without any CRC bubbling and was seated correctly. I wondered if there should be a drain plug there or if not being seated correctly caused the water to collect around the hole. I wonder if water is collecting in the holes and if they didn't add those plugs, the water would drain properly, so it doesn't stagnate, causing more corrosion. I found out the holes were for drainage so I removed them to be safe.

Had my 04 inspected this week. Undercoating done as part of the recall in 2010. Undercoating flaked off long ago. No holes - 60k miles on it, always garaged. I was planning on selling. Is it ethical to sell without telling the buyer the whole rust story? Would anyone want to buy an 04 knowing the rust story?

If it was inspected/undercoated properly by Toyota the warranty would transfer to them. I would have no problem buying it.

So, I got a call and picked up the truck today. Happy to have it back, not happy for not getting a call before the swap as I was told I would. Supposedly the truck was finished on 2/25 according to the paperwork.

My pink antifreeze was replaced with red. Any repercussions I should worry about?

Also, missed a crack in my windshield before I left. The truck was beyond dirty and didn't notice the crack until after I went through the car wash. Wtf... To late now. Also noticed missing push pins that hold the cowl down on the ends.

They gave me a nice list of recommended things that needed fixing... $3300+. Not on that list was the tstat with the nice pink crust around it or the inner tie rod end that the tire place told me about before I brought the truck in last November. Both of which I told to the service advisor.

Don't get me wrong, very happy to have the truck back, rides verrrrry nice now. However, not getting a call before things happened had left a bad taste in my mouth where as being without a vehicle is beyond difficult for me. Especially, where I was ready to give them up to 2Gs to fix some things while they had it. Nothing I can't do. It just takes away from my money making time.

All in all, I am a very happy camper it rides like a dream and nice tight steering again, tighter anyways. And I would have to say that well over 95% of the rattles have gone away. Also got the 4 leaf tsb springs. Just waiting on the recall for the new set.

Do you have any idea when Toyota will start replacing the leaf springs for the rest of us, not having are frame replaced or having a broken leaf spring?

    Thanks,
    Mark

I was not aware that they have a solution out yet. And, I was told by a service advisor back in November that I was getting new rear springs regardless. Then those would be replaced when the recall went into effect.

I would also think that there would be a mention of that on the receipt I got.

Oh my god, this thing rides so nice and I am in shock at how quiet it is on highway

Could you please help me and inform me where you found proof of the frame recall still being in effect. I just took my 04 to have it looked at today, a rep laughed in my face and said there is no recall on my truck.

I would first find out if it was ever sprayed with CRC, when it was being recalled, because if it wasn't you will not have a 15 year warranty on the frame.

This was copied from a posting on a different thread here:

For 2001 to 2004 Tacoma trucks:

Toyota no longer sprays the frame for corrosion protection.

If a truck has frame perforation from rust and has never been sprayed - time has run out. Claims will not be honored.

If the frame has been previously sprayed by Toyota and then develops rust perforation, Toyota will send an engineer to inspect and evaluate before frame replacement.

Contact your local Toyota service dept. They should confirm this.
Give them the VIN of the truck and have them check to see if it has ever been inspected and sprayed.

Well , gonna shake it down easy, retork susp, bleed brakes check tranny fluid and reallign it cuz my aal was late getting here. It was sitting on my porch when i got home so i slapped em in about two hrs including changing clothes twice. 30 degrees with the sun going down will put a lil pep in yer step! My son just went to the tech's house( buddies with his son) so im gonna kick him a pretty good tip for dealing with a SHIT-TON of mud!

I had my inspection last Thursday. I was correct in my assumption. Lol! My truck was deemed unsafe to drive and Toyota is providing me a rental. The service guy said 2-3 months to get the frame, and then the standard 2 days of work. They said they will upgrade my suspension with whatever I decide to put on it. Parts for that will need to be purchased by me, but use their free labor since they will actually have less work to do. So for now, I'm shopping around for an OME lift or possibly the 5100 setup. It's just a waiting game for now.

Do you happen to know where I could find the procedure attachment? I am taking mine in for inspection tomorrow. If they insist on doing the coating, I want to make sure they know what the hell they are supposed to do.

I took mine in and need a new frame, 05 Blurple monster with 141K miles on it. Had some basic questions - where's the hole? How big is it? Is it safe to drive? No answer to any questions. Couldn't give me a concrete answer. For everybody who still drove their truck while waiting for the frame to get in, did you feel safe driving it? They didnt give me any liability form to sign, just handed me the keys and said we'll call you when the frame gets in. The hole could be tiny, but I don't know if I feel right driving my kids around just knowing there's a hole in the frame. I guess I wouldn't mind a newer car to drive around for a couple months waiting for the frame. As long as it's not another Hyundai Accent.
