SoCal dealers not budging from MSRP

i hope this is the right forum for this discussion.

so far, i visited two dealers in SoCal for pricing, and they said that the sticker price is basically the price. they said the best thing i can do is hope for a great interest deal in the very near future. i could not believe that in this ecomomy they won't swing down.

i called my friend who owns a Tundra, and he said he got the same rap, and it was like a Saturn dealership - sticker price is the price, no matter how many times he walked away.

there are a few sellers on ebay that can ship me my truck from another state, and even with a $1,000 shipping charge, it's still $2K less than MSRP. (i'd still pay CA tax)

will this really be my best deal?

 

I bought my 2009 from Toyota of Orange for less than MSRP. I've also heard Longo writes some pretty good deals.

 

why not go out of town and then find a dealer when u come back

 

Bro if your a member of costco.. goto the costco autobuying programs website. Put in your info, and they will send you an email on which dealer to goto. They will show you 3 prices... MSRP(STICKER), Costco Price, Invoice. Coscto price is usually 500 above invoice, so if there are any rebates you get those also.. Dont pay sticker.. Come down to san diego and get a taco...

 

I got mine at Longo Toyota. best place i think in the L.A. area for tacomas in my opinion. what i did was first go to all the local dealer sites to get an internet quote. They will give you a low quote just to get you to come in. the lowest quote i got was from pasadena. i responded to longo and asked them if they can beat this price. they did and i made a deal with the internet sales guy for that price with all the specs i wanted. then i scheduled an appt. to meet and test drive. when i got there, the internet sales guy no showed. pissed me off cuz i wasted my day. a floor salesman approached me and i told him the situation and said that the internet sales told me this price and that i tried calling him and all this bs after he no showed. the floor sales guy found out he was off so i told the guy, if you can beat this internet price i will give the commission to you. i got a good deal and that was that. to this day i still get emails from that internet guy asking if i'm ready to buy. haha.

 

Come down to San Diego and I will hook you up with my dealership. I bought an 2010 at the end of Sept for Invoice. Costco Price is $500 above invoice. Carlsbad Toyota has been very good to me service and sales wise.

Those smaller dealerships selling at MSRP can go pound sand. Toyota Carlsbad will let you know what is coming in and when they are being made. He looked on the computer right in front of me. I told them what Trim and color I wanted. They let me know what they were expecting in the next month or so which was like 3 or 4 vehicles at the time. I have an TRD Off Road 4x4 in Super White. I will buy my next Toyota form them.

Plus Service dept got me my Rear Leaf TSB...

the msrp on my truck was $32250 and toyota of santa monica came down to $30750. it was like pulling teeth

 

might have something to do with the production line moving which will interrupt supply for a bit, but there should still be some room to haggle depending on what config you're looking for.

car-buying services are probably the easiest way to go if you can hook up with one, and you might be able to get a little extra knocked off in late december 'cause the dealers get taxed on whatever's on the lot on the morning of Jan 1.

 

If you are willing to travel a little try Roseville Toyota outside of Sacramento, their internet dept. was very good to me for my 2009. The price they emailed me was the price I paid - no messing around. If I remember right they were 500 under invoice.

 

dang...I was in an out...very quick...but we both got good deals in the end.

 

ya...it took me all day. i went in at 9am and i left at 12pm when they wouldnt budge more than $1000. i called them back at 1 hour before they were closing (8pm) and told them that i would come in and buy it if they came down by $1500. i left the dealer at 10pm with the new truck.

i didnt get the best deal possible, but with the limited availability of the truck and options i wanted, it was best to jump on it rather than passing it up

 

My dealer took 13% off of sticker price and then charged me $150 for doc fee, which is BS but 13% off is decent which ended up being more like 12%.

 

I got what I felt was a good deal at Toyota of Orange. I would try them out, they had plenty of inventory, go over there and talk with a guy named Hoss.

 

MSRP was almost 33k on mine, bought for 27ish... suposedl 250 over invoice.... dealers still get a 2k factory kickback if I remember correctly. You can get better.

 

dealers will always make money even selling the truck well below invoice as they did with the 09 at the end of the year. 500 above invoice is the most I will pay...just glad I got it at invoice. I worked with the fleet managers as well. Longest part for me was test driving and filling out finance paperwork. Negotiation was maybe 15 mins max.

 

My friend just picked up a 2010 model for below MSRP, actually $200 over invoice which was a very sweet deal. Whoever these dealers are you went to need a reality check, the economy is still shit and people wont pay MSRP.

 

Power Toyota in Irvine has a pretty good selection of trucks on their lot, and can get others from Buena Park and one other dealership, forgot the city. They will sell at invoice, which can be found on Edmunds.com if you build the truck with the options and match the MSRP on the truck. They still make their profits cause of the holdbacks, etc.

My cousin owns several dealerships up in Seattle (not Toyota). He has told me the best time to deal is in the last few days of the month. The sales managers get bonuses each month which are based on the amount of units they move, so they will be motivated to move more cars. It is also best to go in after hours, as in after the bigger bosses go home for the night. Easier for the lower level sales managers to ask for forgiveness than permission when trying to move a vehicle at a lower price.

 

They sold off a lot of trucks with Cash for Clunkers, and shut down production for a while during model year changeover.

Reduced supply = increased cost (for same demand). They're not willing to deal because they don't really have to...

Compare to earlier this year when people were routinely getting prices well below sticker...and there were plenty of trucks on lots all over the place.

Are you sure about the whole carlsbad thing? I went in there motivated to buy a new 2010 D/C shrt bed 4x4 offroad tacoma. So I get to the dealership, look around on the lot, and the internet sales manager comes to me, I was talkin to him a bit. He showed me a truck that I def liked, except the sticker on it was 31,181...and all it had was offroad/jbl and towing!!!
Edmunds has their MSRP at around 28k i believe. So ask the guy for a test drive, he agrees, and while we're driving I ask about the truck a bit more, what kind of offers they have. Everything was groovin until I got to the price. I asked if I could see a detailed sheet of all charges they were throwin in. Dealer prerp/ advertising...I also asked if I could see what their dealer to factory holdback was. At that point he basically scoffed at me and said something along the lines of "I am not going to give you any information related to those subjects, so don't even bother asking; the price you see on the window is the price you pay." I was fairly offended at that point, and then when he tried to say that he could make my payments lower by financing me for 72months of financing!! You've got to be kidding me!
