LOL. Me neither, I'm at 14.1 MPG right now.

 

Try running gas that has NO ethanol in it. Should help mpg and performance.

Because the average person accelerates and brakes hard. I'm amazed at the people that fly past me and then slam on the brakes at the next light. Doesn't surprise me the average person gets 19 or so. I'm averaging about 22 so far with a pretty even mix of highway and city.

 

I've put 3100 on it, and haven't seen over 20.1. 1600 of that is all highway, on cruise control 95% of the time. I guess the computer doesn't know how to drive the truck efficiently either. Or maybe 70-75 is too fast for 20.1+ mpg.

 

Don't use cruise control and try doing 60-65 and i'm positive you will see over 20.1.

 

A lot of it has to do with the dang cruise control kicking the truck into 4th gear on the highway. As seen here (plus wind noise):


I'm averaging about 19 MPG per tank on the dot since the temps have come up. I was at 15-17 through the winter. Nice to see some improvement at least. Highway is lower though, never over 17-18 on a long stretch, this truck doesn't handle wind very well, not enough low end torque. If I go 60 down a country road I can average 22 from point to point, but it's pretty rare that I don't hit the highway on the same trip, or in town lights.

Turning off cruise control helps, but on a long trip it's not ideal. Plus it's something that should work right. Never had a single issue with my Tundra, always cruised in 6th even with a strong headwind. More power plus 4:30 rear end I suppose.

 

Yep. Cruise control isn't going to help with mpg. 6th gear is pretty much useless unless you are going downhill or really fast. I would probably just keep it in S5 and keep it wherever the lowest rpms are. (on the highway that is, S4 in town)

 

Not using cruise control on an 800 mile highway drive is a bit barbaric. lol.

At times the truck would downshift(for no apparent reason- flat ground, just cruising), and get stuck revving up to 3500-4500, and refused to shift up. I tried clicking it over into the sport shift mode, and tried putting it from 4th to 5th or 6th, and it wouldn't shift at all- it just remained in 4th until I clicked it off cruise control and slowed down a bit.

 

Yeah I know it can be a pain...comes down to what you are more concerned about I guess, comfort or mpg. Putting it in the shift mode is just the gear limiter, meaning if you put it into S4 the highest gear it will go into is 4, so it will keep you out of overdrive. It isn't supposed to shift, just the max gear you can be in from what I heard. So putting it in S5 will allow the truck to not go into 6th gear.

 

60-65 on I-95 in south Florida is a death wish. Traffic does 80-85.

 

I only really believe manual calculations. Fill a tank till the pump clicks off. Reset the trip odo. Burn a tank, fill it until the gas pump clicks off on a full tank, and do the math with the number of gallons and the miles traveled. Any other way of doing it will result in aberrations from the small sample size.

Highest speed limit here is 65, 2nd highest is 55. Sure lots of people may go faster, but isn't that the reason for multiple lanes? Not too sure of what the actual speed limit is there, but maybe just stay in the right lane?

 

Except I've driven mine annoyingly like a grandpa and am averaging 19.1mpg as you can see by my fuelly numbers.

 

I'm driving my DCLB conservatively, but since going over 1000 miles I've seen my mileage creep steadily up. I drive at least 80% on surface streets, and honestly it's the starts from a light that kill me. When the truck is moving, whether at 25 or 45 mph, the efficiency meter hovers around the 20 to 25 empeegee mark. Days when I catch lights green my mileage climbs for that trip to 21. Conversely, if I get hit by 4 or 5 red lights I'm staring down 18.

It's an issue for any non-hybrid vehicle, and this truck is no exception.

I have been playing with shifting into and holding 6th at 45 mph or 5th at 35, and I think my numbers are climbing ever so slightly. More experimentation is needed. It's a fun distraction.

 

So over the last two weeks I decided to track my gas manually and it lined up with the computer within .25 MPG both times. I also tried my very best to drive as calmly as possible and managed to get decent milage. But it was rather hard to restrain myself from passing people and sucking up the gas, haha. Also, the weather was warm, and not super windy. So this is pretty much optimal circumstances for me. This is everything from 40-75 MPH mixed and not using cruise control on the highway and letting it drop speed a bit. Other than when I took the video of course to prove a point.

 

I'm averaging just above 20mpg, my old 2010 4Runner I averaged about 17mpg. Both trucks were running E- rated tires and a small lift.

 

In my old toyota trucks, anything over 65 you could literally watch the gas gauge needle drop. I usually averaged 2 fill ups a week, Mondays and Fridays.

This new truck is at 1/4 tank on its 2nd fill up and has over 640 miles on it in its 2nd week of ownership and same commute.

I'm not complaining.

 

on my commute to work. I average 17mpg and I drive very easy hardly ever get over 2500rpm. i dont know how people are getting 20mpg+ city they must live somewhere that has ZERO hills and everything is perfectly flat. Pittsburgh is nothing but big hills all over
