so i stopped by the gas station to fill up my car on monday and the automatic shutoff on the gas pump failed causing gas to come splashing back out of my car. in all there was about a gallon of gas on me, my car, and the ground. when i told the employees at the station what happened they responded by telling me that "it happens sometimes when its cold and there is nothing we can do about it". i think that is total BS but im curious if it has happened to anyone else. please share your stories.

Ask for the refund on the last gallon pumped.

    OR

Next time your filling up, pull out the nozzle and spray the last gallon all over the ground and flower pots. When they ask what the f**k you're doing, tell them "it happens sometimes when its cold and there is nothing you can do about it".

I used to work at a gas station when I was younger, and it happened quite frequently, and the worst part, is we were supposed to make them pay for it. Stating that you have attend the pump while pumping. We had a guy that prob had 5-7 gallons go out on the ground. He was hostile that we made him pay for it.

down here we hardly have the little locks that allow the nozzle to pump by itself. You have to hold it. The oddest thing to me about this is that its a rarity to some of yall I grew up with pumps shooting out at us if you weren't paying attention.

Done that before, but this pump didn't have automatic on locks, so I used my car keys and jammed them underneath the handle for some hands free pumping. Either way, it didn't shut off. I didn't have a problem paying. The store employees washed all that gas down the drain with buckets of water....

This happened to a friend of mine the pump didn't kick off and a few gallons went all over the ground. The guy behind the counter said he will worry about it later! Wow.

hmm really? When I pump my own gas I listen to hear it comming up the filler hose, and manually shut it off and top if off so I dont wind up smelling like gas the whole time...Either that, or I know how much is roughly in the tank and watch how many gallons are pumped in. Its just common sense.

 i can see myself doing that...

after i called the corporation offices, i got a call back from the manager and she apologized for the employees attitiude and offered to pay for the gas and offered a free car wash too. i appreciated that and explained that i was more concerned about the employees "who cares" attitude and not the 2.70 of gas. the manager went on to tell me that it has happened a few more times in the last couple of days - blamed the cold weather again - and i asked if she knew what pump those incidents happened at. turns out it was the same one that i was at on monday. maybe theres a problem with that pump she told me. ah! ya think?!?!
