Truck is back. Toyota got it right the second time. They say some debris and mud got on the new deal and stuff. They also wrote that if it fails again, I'll need a new crankshaft. Interesting.

Makes me wonder if they scratched the sealing surface of the crankshaft when removing the old one, dealerships lie about all sorts of stupid shit to make themselves look better. I've strait up told the service manager what I did and they will make up some bullshit to tell the customer. I've never been one to lie about something on a car to the owner. If I screwed it up, I'm going to fix it and make it right, but I am not going to lie about what happened.

Agree. This should be the only reason the crank needs replacing

Could be. Hopefully there won't be a next time. If there is, it will most likely be happening on my garage floor. I have my doubts about that dealership now but I also have my doubts about really needing to replace the crank.

If they scratched the crankshaft deep enough right where the seal rides you will know soon enough. ( like a lot of people remove them with flathead screwdrivers and hammer them out) it is very possible, I have seen it happen more than once on camshafts, never a crank but it's the same type of seal. I wouldn't cover it for sure if they did that, that's a lot of work because someone else screwed up. Only other way a rear main seal would leak that I can think of is because of a bad thrust bearing causing the crank to walk, but normally you would hear that sort of stuff. Agree to some extent though, if you want something done right then you gotta do it yourself.

Well we will see! I've always just cut the seal as much as I could and pulled it out without scratching anything. And if they did screw the crank up, then I think I'll find a way to LS swap this bitch.

I keep wondering to myself what I would do if my engine screwed up in a catastrophic sort of way. I may build it but then again it's like... diesel swap? v6 swap? I hope that day doesn't come but anything is possible. Be weird to see a toyota roll coal... But if anyone would do it, I would.

I'm leaving that stuff alone, Drove truck to Columbus and back the past 2 days and it's been great, even did a couple of trails after training on Tuesday. Ran about 1 and a half tanks of fuel since the bad gas ran out, wasn't hard between my initial trip to Columbus and all the dicking around in between.
Every time I go down there I take a different way home even if it takes me an extra hour or more I had nowhere to be, this time both days I drove through Mt Vernon and I really like that town, not sure why but I liked it.

It's really Sawmill area, between Powell and 315. If you know where Smoky Row and Hard intersect it's a stone's throw from there. Went over there earlier and we got the cap off the Blazer. My buddy had his friend come up from Whitehall so all was well. Also, i bled my brakes again to see if I had air trapped and looks like I got it right the last time. I'm likin these Tundra calipers so far..

Find me a video of an LSx engine in a taco. I'm having fun thoughts. Some long tube headers would sound epic on the trail.
