Property taxes here are relatively cheap; they get the money in other ways and vehicle registrations are one way. They stack it so people with newer vehicles get shafted and those with older vehicles pay much less. I'm just happy my 2014 was only $380 this year.

For once I agree with one of you nicknames

Just paid $76.87 to register my '01. Hasn't really changed in the years I've owned it, might have even gone up slightly.

I recall license plate fees being included in my final purchase price of the truck, and therefore being rolled into my financing for that first year. Is that not the norm? I can see how Toyota/financing companies would want to do that so that you pay interest on it over the life of your loan.

That's how the first year goes because it's usually very expensive due to having to pay sales tax on the vehicle purchase price as well as tag fees. I think my sales tax was about 2k and the first year tags were like $800 iirc.

Sales tax is a one-time thing though. And actually the plate fees are pretty low (based on vehicle weight). But then you tack on whatever other fees your county has (typically a road fee at least, usually more). And in this state you pay ownership tax on the vehicle rather than... whatever the other way was. I forget it's been so long since I lived in a state that did the other way. Ownership tax is based on a percentage of the purchase price of the vehicle. Every year you pay a percentage of that, first model year being highest at 2.1%. Then it goes to 1.5, 1.2, and .9. Years 5-9 are .45%. After that it's $3 a year.

That ownership tax rate hasn't really gone up for some time, but the price of vehicles has considerably. When I bought my Tacoma they were 30k trucks for the TRDs. Now they're like 40k. That's a big jump. Usually you're paying more in ownership tax the first few years, then it's like half fees (because they have added a bunch of those, since as someone already mentioned they can't raise tax rates without a vote but they can add all the fees they want) and half tax, and then you get to the point where you're paying very little tax and it's almost all plate and other fees.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has arrested Austin Russell aka 'Chumlee' from the TV reality series, Pawn Stars.

The LVMPD was originally at the residence in reference to a sexual assault investigation. Russell is a suspect in the case.

Officials say they found marijuana, meth, and a weapon during the search.

As by ownership tax, you mean vehicle registration costs?

So, I got pulled over this morning by 5-0. Reason being I didn't have my front license plate, he let me go since I had "special plates". Anyone run into troubles like this? I used to have a Suba before with no plates for longest time, never been pulled over. Are Tacoma's cop magnets or did the cop just wanted to check out a new Tacoma...LOL?
