2016 Taco at Car Show with rust??

Yes it's a very widespread problem for something that just came out for 3 months

 

You failed to bold the all Toyotas portion.

 

You failed to ask a logical question that isn't open to ridicule.

 

I'm simply trying to figure out if this is a problem with all toyotas or just tacomas. Like I mentioned above, I've never owned one and thought someone on here might be able to answer my question. Instead I get a douche bag reply from you.

This just showed you haven't done enough research to draw your own conclusion, quite a rookie mistake. Rusty frames are well known in the Tacoma circle.

Everything rust, if you're not on top of rust-proofing your own vehicle.

Now does this non-douchebag reply satisfy your inquiry? Once again you're freaking out over something that WILL rust. Do the yearly rust-proofing and you won't have to ask such a question ever again. Have a good day.

It's been normal for Tacoma since Toyota switched to powder painting proces (JIT).
I just got my frame replaced on 2007 Tacoma and it is the same problem.
Supposedly 2008 trucks are the last to get frame recall so 2009+ will be left to own peril.
All new farms are made by Metalsa in Mexico. Same frame.
Frame replacement costs $13k so people buying 2016 should factor that into their purchase. Otherwise truck is salvage and insurance will not cover it.

 

It is a known problem with 2nd gens, but so far, nothing wrong with 3rd gen. Time will tell.

If you read the thread, those spots are 100% NOT rust, but should be considered a defect in the coating like a rock chip. They are weld byproduct. See post 75 for close-ups. I checked on my own truck. If you doubt it, do a white rag test. No red rust residue will come off.

Believe me, the pics do look like rust, but are NOT.

 

It 's a problem with every vehicle but in different places. A friends GMC 3/4 ton diesel at seven years is a rust bucket. A neighbor's ford diesel truck is on his second set of doors at 10 years the first set with replaced rockers at six years. You MUST look at rust prevention in the rust belt as routine maintenance. If you don't your vehicle will rust.

I feel bad for people who had to have their frames replaced, but no more then some one who needed a motor job when they did not change their oil or a paint job when they left their car exposed to the southern sun's rays for years without protection. It's up to automakers to make a profit with turnover. It's up to the owner to slow that process down. Even if the photos were not pictures of rust, don't relax, it will rust regardless in high rust areas.

 

True on the first 1/2 of the gen-2 production run. But supposedly the 09+ are good. I will say this...my '13, bought in December of '12, had no meaningful rust after 2 1/2 years and 3 hard winters. So that's a good sign. I expect my '15 to be the same.

What my '13 looked like many times over last 3 winters!

 

No problem with Toyotas produced in Japan.

 

I just sold a 2009 Tacoma I never gave it any rust prevention treatment and had no rust.... the guy I sold it too looked under it also.

I just took a quick look under my taco with 700 miles and there are some surface rust spots here and there. For comparison, I looked at my wife's 2012 GMC Yukon frame and no rust. That's disheartening. I'll be applying some undercoating soon but am luck that I love far enough south in Texas that road salt is not an issue.

 

Where I live air salt is an issue. It ruins everything. You get used to it.

 

I think it's typical. TMMTX is having supply chain issues so they will let crap in the front door, out the back and into our driveways.

2016 Tacoma frame and rear suspension will be the same as before or likely worse. My frame is already kinked and had a leaf replaced. Alignment is terrible, dealer says its fine but refused to give me the report. Apparenty some taco-headed genius at the stealership decided to screwed with the caster to correct track. It's like riding a fat chick in a waterbed except i'm wearing Goodyear instead of Trojan....
