Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this same problem with their automatic transmission..... at random times through the day, when I shift from park to drive, or reverse to drive, there can at times be a delayed reaction with it engaging into drive. I can shift no problem, but sometimes there is a full 1-2 second pause before the transmission actually goes into drive. So if you're backing out into traffic and need to take off real quick, there is a sense of urgency. I have not reported this yet because I was hoping the truck might correct itself, but with over a thousand miles on it now, the problem has not gone away, or got any better or worse either. I found the same exact complaint on another site. Does anybody have any input regarding this? I'm pretty ticked to have this going on with a $35,000 truck, my 2001 SR5 was absolutely Flawless up until 200,000 miles when I sold it. I love this truck, but not happy, they seem to have some bugs to work out. Thanks

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Tryin' to love the 3rd gen... good for you. I like your attitude, in spite of the unacceptably poor transmission performance you are still "bright eyed and busy tailed on the 3rd gen". I'm sure Toyota will release a software update for the transmission about 1-2 years out. They did that with the 2nd gens also. Hang in there, sales are good for the 3rd gen so help is probably on the way. That's really the "Achilles heel" for these new Tacomas right now and I'm sure Toyota is aware of it. But wouldn't hurt to complain to your dealer also.

Ill be picking up my 2016 dcsb sport 2wd with tow either thursday/friday or sunday. It may not be the most "ethical to me" option but I intend to bet them the cost of the check to give me peace of mind on my 40k purchase and if its low they will cover the cost. I will provide results when it comes and try and be as thorough as I can. I will bringing the the TSB 0079-15 and the procedure to manually check the transmission fluid.

I will be going to earnhardt in pheonix/mesa if anyone has had experience with their service dept. please let me know about it.

OP there have been many reports of the Transmission fluid being low from factory, I would get that checked as soon as possible.

I checked my fluid and added 1 litre but problem is still there. Also greases n checked driveline bolts. Its really enoying, feels like its delayed like an older vehicle would act.

I love all of these unconfirmed transmission updates from Toyota. Don't think they're coming, fellas.

It's just weird because my TRD Sport does not have this problem but I have been hearing a lot about it. Mine was assembled in Baja. Is it possible that it is the manufacturing plant doing something to the transmission?

It's funny. previous to purchasing this truck i bought a 2015 Acura tlx new. The Acura forums literally mirrored this forum with threads on the transmissions.

Acura eventually acknowledged the issues and released a fix by just reprogramming the transmission and resetting it.

If anyone can post a confirmed update, that is, not some rumor you heard from your dealer or rumor started on TW, I will believe.

I'm not an expert, but my guess would be that because this is an electronic transmission and has no cables from the shift lever to the transmission there may be a slight lag in the transmission getting the signal.

Are you sure about this? I thought the actual shifter was mechanical? The shift points are for sure electrical.

Mine was made in San Antonio Texas, with a Japanese engine and an American Transmission. My transmission can have a delay engaging into Drive when shifting into drive from eirher park or reverse.

Not 100%, but this is how it is on most cars. Get under the truck and look.

Chrysler had a push button shifter on the dash back in the sixties . Nothing but grief with them .
I dont believe anyone has followed Chrysler yet .
You have a cable going from the shifter , down to the transmission .
