Work ethic. That's the word that escaped me when I wrote my post.

Not to brag, but: I have not had an unscheduled day from work in my entire work life. Same with my wife.

Don't get me wrong: I do have health problems like the all of us do. I do have personal stuff that needs to be taken care of during regular work days. I do take much needed time off from work. But I always schedule all my stuff. I manage my time extremely well.

And I've never missed work due to storms, blizzards, floods, earthquakes, etc. In fact, I'm usually the first one to show up at work.

That's why I own a 4x4 Tacoma

 

Growing up in Southern California the only farm near us was Knott's Berry Farm (amusement park), but my dad had enough sense to send me to his friends farm up north of Sacramento during my teens. Have so many great memories of my time up there. Some of the hardest work of my life which includes wildland and structural firefighting and EMS and was never late or called out sick . I now work in a hospital for the past 6 years and have not been late or missed a day even when I had shingles and passed a kidney stone while doing a procedure on a kid. Finished the study pale, cool and diaphoretic (sweaty), then got wheeled to the ER by my nurse. Every kid needs that experience to make them the men our father are. My youngest seems to get it, he missed no days of high school and now goes to work no matter what, even riding his bicycle no b/c of broke down car. Thanks dad for your example!

 

Those of us who grew up on a family farm also have a sense of loyalty to the task at hand. We learned EVERYONE has to work until ALL the work is caught up. We learned not to abuse equipment or you'd be fixing it THEN trying to get caught up again. We learned to respect the boss. Mostly, we learned the personal satisfaction of a job well done.

 

took off work for tomorrow, gonna do me sum irrigation pond hoppin, Mike?? whudda you gonna do?

 

then install the Stern-Mate for my transducer, mebbe just mebbe, the depth finder will work on plane???

 

: Oil change instructions for women

1) Pull up to Jiffy Lube when the mileage reaches 3000 miles since the last oil change.
2) Drink a cup of coffee.
3) 15 minutes later, write a check and leave with a properly maintained vehicle.

Oil Change instructions for Men :
1) Wait until Saturday, drive to auto parts store and buy a case of oil, filter, kitty litter, hand cleaner and a scented tree, write a check for $50.00.
2) Stop by 7/11 and buy a case of beer, write a check for $20, drive home.
3) Open a beer and drink it.
4) Jack car up. Spend 30 minutes looking for jack stands.
5) Find jack stands under kid's pedal car.
6) In frustration, open another beer and drink it.
7) Place drain pan under engine..
8) Look for 13mm box end wrench.
9) Give up and use crescent wrench.
10) Unscrew drain plug.
11) Drop drain plug in pan of hot oil: splash hot oil on you in process. Cuss.
12) Crawl out from under car to wipe hot oil off of face and arms. Throw kitty litter on spilled oil.
13) Have another beer while watching oil drain.
14) Spend 30 minutes looking for oil filter wrench.
15) Give up; crawl under car and hammer a screwdriver through oil filter and twist off.
16) Crawl out from under car with dripping oil filter splashing oil everywhere from holes. Cleverly hide old oil filter among trash in trash can to avoid environmental penalties. Drink a beer.
17) Install new oil filter making sure to apply a thin coat of oil to gasket surface.
18) Dump first quart of fresh oil into engine.
19) Remember drain plug from step 11.
20) Hurry to find drain plug in drain pan.
21) Drink beer.
22) Discover that first quart of fresh oil is now on the floor. Throw kitty litter on oil spill.
23) Get drain plug back in with only a minor spill. Drink beer.
24) Crawl under car getting kitty litter into eyes. Wipe eyes with oily rag used to clean drain plug. Slip with stupid crescent wrench tightening drain plug and bang knuckles on frame removing any excess skin between knuckles and frame.
25) Begin cussing fit.
26) Throw stupid crescent wrench.
27) Cuss for additional 5 minutes because wrench hit bowling trophy.
28) Beer.
29) Clean up hands and bandage as required to stop blood flow.
30) Beer.
31) Dump in five fresh quarts of oil.
32) Beer.
33) Lower car from jack stands.
34) Move car back to apply more kitty litter to fresh oil spilled during any missed steps.
35) Beer.
36) Test drive car.
37) Get pulled over: arrested for driving under the influence.
38) Car gets impounded.
39) Call loving wife, make bail..
40) 12 hours later, get car from impound yard.

Impound fee: $75.00
Bail: $1500.00
Beer: $20.00
Total: $4,145.00

Knowing the job was done correctly..... Priceless

 

A buddy of mine gave me a power pedestal and I have to get it cleaned up and working. So I think my weekend project is pulling the boat out and doing a spring prep. Hope this year I don't need to do any major work on it..... Big downer when water was pissing out #1 plug hole. Lol.

Really slow day today, got a call around 3 asking why I was still in Vacation status? Oh shit... no wonder

 

Hit the rack a few hours early last night! Got me an extra 2 hours sleep. Man did that help! Up @ 0400 this morning. I'm trying to get a few things done early before a 9:45 doctor appointment. More test's.... We're hoping to figure out why I can't shake the kidney infection(s). No rain today, but get ready for flooding tomorrow. Up to 5" predicted for Saturday and Sunday, with lighter rain predicted all next week. I think our drought is broken.

Good morning, all! About to hitch up the camper test the new air bags for the first time. Hope the forecasted rain for us Sunday pushes out a little more. It was Friday, Saturday and Sunday but thankfully it has moved further out.

 

Good Morning TW, warm and sunny today, yea. truck wash, black taco, so its a part time job. enjoy the day.

 

A group of us have been planning a weekend of camping and trail runs at Land Between The Lakes State Park in western Ky next weekend. Due to several events, my "weekend" was gonna be one night and one day, but even that may be in jeopardy now.....Ky parks dept has shut down the trail system and the park in general due to flooding and excessively muddy conditions. Bummer. A large run already scheduled for THIS weekend has been cancelled too. ( )

 

Better safe than sorry Blugrass. And I hope they figure out whatever the hell is going on with your kidneys.
