The only thread I could find on 4 cylinder model was about gas mileage. Would you 4 door, 4 cylinder owners care to give me a quick review. All info good or bad welcome. Price would be nice if you care to share.

Does everything the V6 truck does, with less performance.

Go on a test drive or 3, rev the motor out a few times, pass some folks on the highway, stick the pedal to the floorboard at a red light a few times.

It's a great motor, but it is a 4 cylinder in a midsize truck. If you're buying for performance and speed, don't get one. If you're buying for longevity, get one.

If neither, get what you want to drive.

I would say read the thread linked above.

I will also say I love mine. No, it won't beat a Corvette or even a Camry at a light, nor will it tow 5,000lbs. However, I didn't buy it to do those things. For very reliable basic transportation use, Home Depot runs, Camping/Kayaking, and road trips it is just fine. I believe I negotiated mine to $24,7xx, but check the what did you pay thread first.

I drove a 2.2, 5 speed GMC Sonoma for many years so I think the Tacoma will be a big upgrade. Just trying to do my homework before dropping 25 G's.

If I didnt need the tad bit more towing power when i bought my 2015 DCSB v6, I was going with the 4banger. Its a damn good little motor that can get the job done just right for the every day joe! :D

I test drove one when I was considering a new Tacoma, before I got my used first gen.

I was looking for a 4cyl specifically because it would be the only way I could afford a new Tacoma, with a manual tranny. The only one they had for me to test drive was an auto though, and I was actually pretty impressed with how it performed, considering how big the Tacomas have gotten. Don't get me wrong it was definitely noticeably slower than the 3.4 I'm used to, but not unbearable. Personally, I'd get the stick shift (not sure if it comes with double cab).

Years ago, I had a Dodge Dakota with the four banger in it and that thing couldn't outrun a turtle. If I had to come to a stop on a hill, I was screwed. The Taco was much better than that, lol.

Check the 2nd gen section too. Its essentially the same truck as the 2011-2015 DCSB drivetrain wise except they added the 6-speed auto.

Yes it'll definitely be an upgrade lol. If I push the ECT power button it feels just about as fast as my 2013 Escape 1.6. Even in normal mode it's fast enough to keep up with everyone, not fast enough to win races though lol. The only big change for me coming from the Escape was how numb the gas pedal feels but that's from Toyota's eco tuning.

If you do not need 4x4 it is a great value. 25k MSRP and another $915 for the convenience package with alloys.

I have a 4x4 AC 4 cylinder manual transmission and I really like it even though it is a little sluggish on acceleration, but have never driven an auto, and I don't rev it very high since I am still in the break in period. Be sure to do the intermittent wiper mod ($90) and the cruise control mod ($40) if you do not get the convenience package.

I have a DBCB SR 2.7 and I love it. I get 23-25 no matter how I drive, I now have a little over 5,000 miles on it. If you drove a GMC Sonoma 2.2 then the 16 Tacoma with the 2.7 will feel fast and powerful. I test drove an S10 with the same setup, a long time ago of course, and it was very sluggish.

I am almost positive I will be getting the 4 door 4 cylinder auto. Looks like I'll be able to get one for under 25 g's. Looking forward to having a new rig. Thanks to all for the info.
