i dont have locktite on mine. I wouldnt install with LT either. Lock nut and hand tight for the top cap is enough.

Why use a lock nut? The top plate is threaded...

I didn't use loctite on mine, but it gives people comfort.

    Hi 4Runner people
So I've been looking at different vehicles for a 4x4 for a little while now, a few buddies got me curious on 3rd gen 4runners. Would love what all of your opinions are on the 3rd gens; in opposition I would be getting a 1st gen tacoma

    No worries.
    I was curious....

What are your goals? Auto vs Manual? Off road vs on road? etc...

I enjoy offroading, although the vehicle would also be my daily driver. I'm not looking to get into full on crawling but I would like a trail capable rig where I won't have to worry about getting stuck too much, currently with my prerunner it's always on my mind.
I'll share my whole story later today after school

I meannn I could get a 2nd gen taco, but I could also get a 1st gen and have more modding money off the bat.

No more toyo's? That pic you posted in your T4R build really showed why you want a bigger tire. That flare makes the front look tiny.

Well I can speak on what I have.

3rd gen 5 speed manual with the locker. It did well off road in stock form. IMO they are great on trails because they are narrow and have a relatively short wheelbase. I had a 96 tacoma before the 4runner. The rear coil springs ride much better. Same payload, but no bed. Seats 4 comfortably. You have your choice of cloth(which is some of the toughest I have seen in a car) or leather.

There are a few "sub" generations to look out for. Personally I would look for a 99, they had cup holders in a good location and the J-Shifter

I actually popped in here for a short bit a long time ago when I was thinking about an 80s for a project

Thanks for the info man, actually I spent a good portion of last night looking at the buyers guide. Probably the biggest thing that's putting me on the iffy about a 4runner is not having a truck bed which I do put to good use often; usually with a buddy's dirt bike though. Although sometimes I carry doors, cabinetry, gravel, etc etc for the family business.
If I were to get a 4runner I would probably immediately do some general maintence, new radiator so I don't have to worry about milkshaking it, and 285 tires with a lift. I'd also love a front bumper to make the front a bit more aggressive, I'm not the biggest fan of thefront but I can change it with armor!

toyo doesnt make a 315/70/17 in ATII.

Im letting these wear out to be real bad then swapping. Im also 1-2" taller than i should be up front. I need to adjust the coilover

Yaaa the lower cost of a 4runner vs a tacoma is really attracting me, though I really do love having the bed in my truck. Also interior really doesn't bug me too much since I always end up changing things anyways, long as it's not too hard to clean I'm happy. Also probably will bedline the floor of my next vehicle so it's easier to clean out mud and dirt

    Awesome 4runner
