its just really weird. They've checked it each time we've brought it in and see no signs of irregular wear or "abuse". I personally am tired of having to go back every few months to have it repaired and do this dance over and over. Shes gotten pretty upset by it being the engagement ring.

 

Yeah my wife is annoyed too. Better not mess up on the wedding band...haha

 

If you want it repaired by someone who cares and is an absolute craftsman, you'll have to come to my area - but a long time friend and customer of ours is a jewelry designer. He can handle anything. He's done work on my platinum Sebastien Barier engagement ring and it's flawless.

I definitely dont plan to go with TCO again for a band or anything else. While it could be a single instance or a single ring issue, its left a poor taste in both of our mouths that OTPHJs cant fix.

He's a custom designer/maker so if there's something legitimately wrong with the design of the ring that's causing the issue, or if the mounts are too weak - he can easily fix.

I don't have a clue what his back log is right now, but for repairs like that it shouldn't be too crazy. If you give them a call, his wife will answer the phone. She is amazing to deal with also, total sweetheart.

 

Ew, @LTDSC why would you buy an overpriced Tiffanys ring?? Last time I looked at engagement rings from them its wA like 10 grand for a pretty much plain band with 1 carat diamond. Fuck all that noise. Im at half that for a 1 carat and a band she loves with like .6 more diamonds on it

 

it was a meaningful type thing instead of price for her. I actually got a pretty good deal on it as well, not mad about what i paid for what i received. But i also didnt have a great experience buying it. The saleswoman was very condescending and told me flat out "you look like you cant afford this ring". When i paid cash for it i kindly let her know she was number 1.

 

Also, when ring shopping in San Diego back in the day, I went to Jareds and met a fat Antonio Banderas. I swear to god it sounded exactly like him, EXCEPT WITH A STUTTER. It was so hard to keep a straight face. Then he BS'd me and I basically walked out.
"My friend we don't carry anything lower than an H clarity (or whatever, I forgot all that nonsense now)"
'Are you sure about that?'
"Would I lie to you?"
'Uh, ok I'm out, there's a whole row of I clarity diamonds right here'

 

Yeah, I've got a bunch of random Tiffanies stuff that is all overpriced crap. I got the wife like a little silver necklace thing that was about half an inch square that looked like a letter with the TFC address on it and then my initials on the back.... $500 because of custom engraving. For something the size of a fingernail that is sterling silver. All because it has the TFC name on it.

 

Put a full exo-cage on that rock. Protect your investment.

 

I've only bought one thing from them, and it was a crystal bowl my sister wanted. It was $180.

When I got it I was amazed it didn't break in transit, it felt like I was holding a light bulb. Last thing I bought from them, I don't mind paying for nice things, but there's a point where price overshoots quality by so much that there's really no sense in it. When I lived in the south my buddy took us to look at engagement rings there that he was shopping for, and agree on the assessment you gave. Meh rings for $$$.

My engagement ring setting alone cost me $4400, not including the 1 carat stone. So.. price wise I'm not doing any better, but I got a lot more ring for the money.

 

Yup. I ended up going to a jewelry exchange in OC. Found the exact setting I wanted, bargained the guy down to $800 for it, came back a month later and said he told me $700, and got a .83 carat diamond on it. Wife was happy until right before the wedding, said she wanted a bigger diamond, so we traded up

 

I got lucky and was able to use my mother in laws rings from her previous marriage. Unfotunately my wifes step dad passed away so the rings were available to us, but I wouldn't have been able to give my wife anything close to what she received. It's a damn big rock and we only had cracker jack money at the time.

 

No shame in that. If I had a family ring like that I'd have done the same, or at least used the stone!

 

Trust me I was stoked and happy to keep the rings in the family and intact. Kind of awkward though when her brother got married this year. My mother in law wants to keep the rings together, but I felt like he should have the guys ring in the set. No one in the family even thought he would get married, including himself...haha

i only paid $5500 for the tiffany's ring. Price on the ring was $14,000. I'm a decent negotiator but that really shocked me so when they said $5500 before taxes i Kramer'd that deal.

 

During wedding planning, my wife went into the Jewelry store to get a matching band and came home without her engagement ring.

Apparently they had a deal she couldn't pass up. She had small diamonds added onto the engagement ring

 

My Mom always said she was going to let me reuse her old wedding ring, then her alcoholism caused some drama and she got uninvited to the wedding. Still havent talked to her in like 4 years.
