With all he complaints and issues many are having, I just gotta say I'm liking my DC TRD OR 4x4 more and more as I rack up the miles. I have 10 K + now and it's driving better each trip. Smoother transmission shifts, less searching for gears, and seams more torquey. I'm not having any annoying issues except for the "sound" at around 25-35 mph. No vibration, no feeling in steering or throttle, just the sound. I can live with it, doesn't bother me at all. Just want to express my enjoyment of this truck more as time goes on.

    Hey OP .... Great News!

I have the same truck same color

What gas mileage are you getting and what is your normal commute speed? I am getting roughly 16 mpg at 75 mph at 9000 miles.

There is no real logical reason for why the truck would significantly be "improving" or changing over the course of 10k miles so I'm going with "you are just getting used to the way it drives"

I have over 5k on mine and I can tell you it does not feel any different from the day I rolled it off of the lot.

Can never go wrong with a white Tacoma! Good looking truck.

What you said is not entirely true... the truck works on a Drive-By-Wire systems that "learns" your driving habits. I have noticed materials differences since the first 5k miles. On a scale of 10 (most annoying) it started at 8 and now is a manageable 5.

So the transmission system and computer system requires more than 5k miles to adjust to driving style? I'm calling BS on that.

I would check with the dealer... a "normal" Tacoma should feel like you're driving a industrial sized Norelco razor. Something could be wrong.

May different road surfaces , may different inclines , may different braking scenarios.

Computer adjust re adjust recals ect takes time... my guest 10-15,000 miles.

I am not a fanboy. Quite the contrary, I'm extremely hard to please and I'm not a brand loyalist on nearly anything. I don't like something just because I own it. I'm just stating an honest observation on my truck's improving driving characteristics. If you choose not to believe me, help yourself.

No wonder happy owners don't post more often. The dickheads swoop in and critique your views and opinions.

Yeah I have not seen anything from Toyota talking about the transmission "learning" anything. Only heard that on this forum. Show me something that confirms and I will believe it. I think people are just getting used to the way it drives.

    Example of change:

My truck holds gears longer before shifting. Before it would shift up so fast that it would have to downshift quickly to keep up. Now, there's not much difference in the way it shifts than when the ECT Power button is on. It truly is difficult to tell the difference. I'd call that a remarkable improvement over the past 10 K miles.

I know that Super Duty Fords trannys have a learning period. I'd think with all the computerized components on these trucks, it's not unlikely that they'd be any different. But who knows, I'm probably wrong. My forum wiener looks pretty small today.

Remember the overdrive turn off buttons ? You can shift these auto trans manually. While they are learning.

One can never have too many light bars.
One guy comes on here and says he likes his truck and thinks it works well and y'all gotta tell him he's wrong and should not be satisfied.
