KC Hi Lites -- installed on a Taco?

Has anyone ever thought of installing on a taco? obviously you would have to do some fab work. I think it would look pretty cool, and would provide functionality as well....thoughts?

 

id rather get a set of cop alley lights that move around... but if i couldnt get them, i still wouldnt do this for visibility issues that would arise...

 

As long as you pointed them relatively straight and got them in a driving or long range beam. Our hoods are longer than jeeps so don't waste the light lighting up your hood.

 

Yea, I could see what you mean about visibility issues, I have trouble now in my neighborhood, going this one turn, between the pillar and the "oh sh*t" bar. Adding a light there could make it worse, but I think it could be cool.

I have the lights behind the grill, but they bounce just enough that it makes me mad, and I dont turn them on unless Im in the country.

These are Hella 4000 metal lights with 100 watt halogen bulbs.

Oh, forgot to mention that these are the 'pencil beam' style lens (max. distance/ narrow pattern). So, you get intense lighting straight down the road, not too much to the sides...

Get 'driving beams' if you need an oval pattern to also light the sides, as your headlights do.

Fog lights are a short, but super wide pattern, great for cornering... and of course foggy conditions.

 

So pencil beam huh? I have never heard of those. Do all of the light manufactures make those? I knew about driving vs. fogs.

 

Many of the top manufacturers do have pencil beam as an option, but they are only for offroad use and are usually 100W-130W Halogens.

 

I was looking at it when I went to lunch today. I think it would be difficult finding an adequate location to mount to, especially that didnt block the hood.

 

Well, they are for who ever wants to see farther down the road than 'driving beams' can light up... This would be for faster driving, long straight roads, dry lake beds, etc. I do most of my off roading in Baja California where you want to see conditions (and cattle) far ahead at night.

I will be considering converting the Hella pencil beam's halogen bulbs for HIDs, as well.

I have HID driving beam lights, and the lighting affect is so fantastic, it looks just light daylight... you can even see colors... and only draws 35 watts.

The cost factor is why I went with Halogen first on the Hella 4000 ($100 vs. $450 per light, Halogen vs. HID).

The HID driving beam lamps I got were only $120 each, but made of ABS plastic and they cracked during one trip on a Baja washboard road. The Hellas are metal and made for off road racing.
