Joined today. It is great to have dealers comment on here. Good info, but not too encouraging for buyers. I've been reading this forum for quite a while and been thinking of going over to a 16 from my 08 for no reason other than I like some of the new bells and whistle's cause mine works just fine. I got to say though, after reading everything and getting syc'd up about this truck for a year it's pretty weak that 6 months into the model year getting one of these is as easy as ordering a pink Z06 that reads "Pussywagon" on it. I love my taco, but what's going on with the no stock and hard to find models (and I mean by that, basic models modestly equipped)? There's not even that many options! Christ, I live in Texas in a large city and it's comical just trying to see one equipped relatively the way you want (very few TRD OR 4X4's with P&T). The taco has been a great truck, but still, it is just a stock mass-produced unit. Does anyone else think this is kind a silly for this vehicle? Just reading this thread illustrates this pretty well. I never had a problem before just going to the lot and seeing some taco inventory. I've also worked in the car business (several manufacturers) when I was younger and never saw availability issues 6 months in with such a staple selling item, especially when they hype it up so much the previous year. Seriously considering waiting for 17' so they can get some inventory and maybe have the hood adhesive issue solved on the OR's or maybe they make small change (like the grill options). Hmm. Sorry don't mean to sound negative on day one here but it is a bit frustrating how Toyota seems to be handling this roll out of Gen 3.

A big part of the problem is Gulf States Toyota and what they think buyers want to buy...or more specifically, what they want to sell to you. What GST seems to think is that if you live anywhere in Texas, you want a DCSB truck in either SR5, TRD Sport, or Limited packages, with an automatic transmission and predator steps on the side. As long as that is what you want, you will have no problem finding a vehicle relatively close to that package at a dealer near you. If you want an access cab truck, you will have to look harder, and if you want a DCLB of any kind, you are probably going to have to special order it, especially if you want a 4x4 TRD OR model. Good luck on even sniffing a MT truck in GST land. They seem to really like the Sport models, and not so much the OffRoad models. So it isn't necessarily a Toyota issue, yes they are working hard to keep up with demand, but the problem seems to be particularly acute in GST territory where they missed the mark on what their buyers were going to be looking for in a truck. Almost all of the folks looking at long wait times in GST territory are waiting on an MT or DCLB truck. Otherwise, it just takes a few weeks for people to get the truck they really want. You are also not hearing on these threads from all the folks who walked into a dealer and were happy to buy what they had on the lot.

So is your dealership charging the same amount for this fee? Or does it vary from dealer to dealer? Thanks for taking the time and answering everyone's questions.

Every dealer in GST will have a line on the invoice that says TMF. To my knowledge every dealer in the US will have the same fees. Just like every dealer will have hold back

I fully understand regional preferences. Everything in Texas seems to be a 2wd Sport for sure, but I even find the premium and tech packages to be few and far between. Having to special order a truck with a basic package seems lame. Why would Toyota or GST for that matter think people wouldn't want the P&T pkg? Hell they made it to make more money on plus it has a lot of features and advancements the older trucks didn't have. I mean that's part of what makes this generation different. I know not everyone wants it given the pricing, but it seems a lot of folks here do like it. As it would seem enough of folks in the region would like the OR 4x4 (to the point there was more than 1 or 2 in a city with 2 to 3 million people in it).

You are preaching to the choir. I have been ragging on GST for years about the lack of any trucks with manual transmissions or DCLB configurations. It is a ridiculous blind spot for them to have. It is bad enough that I had more than one salesperson at a dealership in Houston tell me that Toyota doesn't make the double cab with a long bed on the Tacoma. From what JKilpatrick357 said in another thread, it sounds like GST stopped listening to the group they created to give them input on what to ask for in their allocations. I guess that is the price of giving anybody a monopoly on anything. It would be interesting to see what would happen if Toyota allowed a dealership to open in GST territory that was not part of GST. Won't ever happen, but it would be like fun to watch.

I placed an order for a TRD OR 4x4 in quicksand with the tech package at a dealer in houston. I was told they were hoping to have it in 4 weeks. What i'm seeing here is 6 months, if even possible. Did the dealer mislead or do you think thats possible?

If it is a DCSB or ACSB, 4 weeks is totally plausible. If it is a DCLB, it seems rather quick unless they already had it in their allocation (which is unlikely given GST's proclivity for DCSB trucks).

Its also nuts to hear people from cities and states having to go to other cities and states just to purchase vehicles. Thanks Toyota. Oh well, its not like they make em here...wait

its a double cab long bed, with prem tech package. If its going to make that much difference I may change my order to a short bed. I sent my salesman a message to check and see if he knows when the build date will be, or if he can find out anything. At what point does a dealer know if the build has been approved or when it will be built/delivered?

Trying to find a honest dealer in GST. I live here in Houston and was quoted 41,300 otd on dclb OR with p&t package with jbl in quicksand. Any allocated? Recommendations on a honest dealer?

Hate to see this. I had one allocated to sterling McCall but the salesman didn't see it had a name on it already. So now it's like who knows when it's gonna get here now. I had put a deposit down on a truck that already had a deposit on it :-/

Test drove this (without JBL) in Brownsville last weekend. Almost exact same price. Same truck for sale in Boulder, CO for $4k less. GST sucks. I've never been impressed. Why would I pay $4k more when I could hop on a plane and save $3,500?

I wanted this exact truck but in shortbed, and GST would not except the build after a two month wait. I ended up getting the exact build I wanted from a dealer in AZ in just over 5 weeks. GST sucks and I still have yet to see an actual live pic of a TRD off-road 4x4 with JBL at any GST dealer!

If you can really get on a plane and save $3500, go for it. Here are the prices that I see on the price list. Most trucks that have tech package/ jbl have a lot of other options that easily push up the price $1-2000 or more. Then you have to add TT&L/ Destination fees.

    Invoice MSRP
    7568 - TRD OFF ROAD DOUBLE CAB 4X4 AUTO LB $ 31,814.00 $ 34,340.00
    FP - OR/Sport Prem & Tech Pkg (JBL/DC Only/No M/T) $ 2,701.00 $ 3,035.00
    Gulf States Toyota $ 950.00 $ 950.00
    $ 35,465.00 $ 38,325.00

Yes, please tell us the name of the dealer in Boulder. I have family in that area so it would be worth the trip.

Try Jim Lee at Autonation in Austin. He was easy to work with and gave me a good deal.
