MPG gain from E0 is definitely real, wish I could get it.

Ethanol has one use, to drink, it should have stayed out of fuel.

Ethenol is actually a fantastic fuel, has nice cooling qualities and knock resistance, great for high boost engines. It just so happens to be shit for fuel economy. For most of us it's the latter point that's the important one. Thankfully, we should see summer blend start to roll out next month. I for one am looking forward to it.

I ran a boosted ACVW, it was great for that. But that's pretty narrow compared to all the chunked lawn equipment I had to replace and other small engines and generators. Not to mention the way we do it here is pretty terrible, it's horribly inefficient process from corn to fuel.

Ethanol in gas is forced on us by politicians because Iowa has lots of corn farmers and an important presidential primary. Al Gore admitted it. http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052748703572404575634753486416076

Making ethanol from corn is a net energy loss. In Brazil they make ethanol efficiently from sugar but that cannot be done in the U.S. because of sugar price supports (welfare for well to do farmers).

I hate to hear about your problems with the 6MT on a 2010 model. The 5 speed in my 1991 V6 4x4 had almost identical problems. My wife was reminding me about the transmission from 20 years ago when I put this on on order. I'm hoping the 2016 is much better. Guess I'll find out in a couple of months.

Is summer blend ethanol free different also? Or are there just different ethanol blends for the different seasons?

Hey I had a question. In the first 0-1000 miles did you notice it was clunking when pushing the clutch in? This was very intermittent, only happened 3 times to me, only when the engine was cold. But yeah, when I pushed in the clutch going out of 1st gear, there was a big clug feeling, like if I didn't shift smoothly into gear, but I was going out of gear... It hasn't happened since about 1000 miles and I have about 2200 on my ODO. It also feels like things are getting even smoother when shifting the more I drive it too. I do not remember this with any of my other new manual transmission cars when they were new, but that was a long time ago. My last tacoma was an automatic.

Varies from state to state, where I live in Washington ethanol is required to make up 2% of all fuel sold. In the winter blend is in the neighborhood of E8-E10 and summer blend is closer to E0-E2 depending on the brand formulation. There's more to the seasonal blending then just ethanol and gas, but my knowledge don't extend much further than that.

Source: Client works at one of the Anacortes refineries. It's an interesting topic that's non political.

I'm interested to run another tank or two of the 88 with no ethanol. Problem is even if it is giving me 2 mpg better mileage the added cost of .25 centso makes it a wash.

Hey Chris I have to ask is this your first Tacoma manual? The reason being they said that the shift hubs/syncros had a been upgraded and I wonder if maybe you had seen a difference. I have no problems with my 6 spd. but then again I have been driving stick shift vehicles for 54 years. There have been a lot of whiners so I was kind of wondering if the 16 actually shifted a bit better than the early ones. I like to be in charge of how and when my transmission shifts.

Nope. This is my 4th manual Toyota. See my signature for my pedagree. Overall the 2016 shifts smoother with nice throws. But I still am having some struggles at times with first gear being notchy.

Not sure it would help on the Tacoma....I had a WRX with a super notchy 1st gear and I switched out the tranny fluid for a mix of Mobil 1 and GM synchromesh. Problem fixed. Perhaps a different tranny fluid would help. Tough to mess with stuff under warranty though.

Howdy all, I'm new here but had to stop into the M/T thread!

I learned to drive in an automatic, but once I had my permit, my dad taught me manual and all my cars have been manual since then: 98 Accord, 04 WRX STi, 07 Forester XT, 15 Impreza, and as of yesterday, 2016 Tacoma TRD OR DCSB! I was looking for a practical car and my requirements were: manual transmission, 200+ HP, good cargo space, 4WD, <$40K. Now that Subaru has put CVTs in all of their wagons, I had to jump ship and pretty much the only vehicle that met all those criteria was the Tacoma.

With the STi, I'm used to a notchy transmission (and I love the STi 6 speed!). With the Forester, I'm used to a clunk going into 1st gear and rough shift to 2nd. So everything in the Tacoma seems fine to me, although I noticed the really long throw of the shifter and the far reach in 5th... I will probably cut the shift lever down and/or look for a short throw kit.

Tint, Bed mat, door sill protectors, others pending.

I had a 2012 Mustang GT MT that felt terrible moving through the gears. I replaced the trans fluid with amsoil transmission fluid and it shifted much smoother. This was my plan on my new truck when I get it after my first 1000 miles.

Is this going on your 15 or do you have a 16? Just curious as I thought about it for my 16.
