Installed a Rola roof basket today. Everything went well. I'm looking for suggestions on how to make the mounting more secure so someone would have a hard time trying to steal it. The hand nuts can be unscrewed in a few minutes and the whole thing can be easily removed. I have an SUV and I want to be able to swap the basket between the two trucks but I don't want it to be too easy. I was thinking about nylon locking nuts... but any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

if it bolts through the lid. use a flat top carriage bolt so you can only unbolt it from the inside.

It's hard to say though, can't really see your whole set up. I'd like to see what other people come up with as well.

I wanted the bolts on the inside... but the way the mount is, it just didn't work. Here's what it looks like underneath:

I like the carriage bolt idea, it has potential. Any other ideas? Thanks again.

I'd search for some sort of security fastener, something along this line and replace the thumb nuts
You may need to install a washer of some sorts to seal against leaks

Thanks for the great suggestions. The pentanut looks pretty friggin cool... but knowing me I'd loose the socket. :p I think I'm gonna go with a carriage bolt type setup on top and a nylon locking nut inside. Somebody will have to work to get at it. That's enough to discourage most common thieves. I figure if they want it bad enough, they'll be able to get it no matter what I do. Thanks for the help. :)

Sure... It's a pretty sturdy basket but the only thing I don't like about it is that it's two pieces that are fitted together then fastened with screws. It would be nicer if it came one piece.

How do you like your grill? I'm thinking about doing that as well.

I like it on the 2nd gens much better. I have a grill guard over it now so its not sticking out the so much. I like it better than the stock the. I mostly like the change from chrome to metalic grey. (i painted it)

Cool, thanks. The vertical bars always seemed weird to me.

Any wind noise from the rack when you drive?
I'd love to do this to mine but I think it'd have to be a Thule setup because all of our attachments are Thule.

Sorry, yeah... the black grill bars that you removed for the mesh (the things you cut out)... the ones that make it look like a jeep. I'm probably not describing it very well.
