I can't see this being good for the referee's and league relationship with their contract coming up soon.

 

I disagree. The NHL did everything in their power to hand out and enforce the stiffest penalty they could for abuse of an official. The league then dragged their feet on the appeal process, basically reducing the appeal verdict to a moot point.

 

Yeah, and I can see that point. However I can see it being a bit of a sticking point where the officials may want a stricter set of rules that may need NHLPA approval as well which could be tricky to get.
