Has anyone taken off / modified the exhaust / replaced engine mounts / brackets --to test vibe?

One of the early posters had motor mounts loosened there re torqued and it made the issue worse.

I think you may be onto something, however weird. That would be indicative of some knock with regular gas... but knock resulting in sustained vibrations? Very weird.

Maybe knock causing some sort of switching between two injection systems causing some type of resonance?

People are saying this issue shows after a while. Wonder if it is related to ECU learning some fuel trims that lead to the vibration. Trying to reset the ECU could confirm this.

Someone with open source data logging and some experience should be able to look at some data and figure it out, this is a interesting hypothesis indeed

If this is sustained long term knocking, then it will damage the engine. Most modern engine management systems have a knock sensor that picks up on even slight knock and retards the timing. You lose power [and a slight mileage drop] but that is much more acceptable then internal engine damage.

I don't think the vibration is knocking, I have thought all along that it is some kind of resonance due to how the engine works in the atkinson cycle. Other then the transmission, not much has changed in the drive train or underpinnings to increase vibration. I still thnk a better engine choice would have been the updated 4.0 found in the FJC in it's later years.

If it's Atkinson cycle related then it would be possible to be tuned out (correct me if I'm wrong) and have the ecu map run only on Otto cycle all the time. I suppose your gas millage would be lower a few mpg tho but better then a buzz.

Hi guys, I have an OR access cab, Magnaflow 19291, and have always used 93 octane since getting the truck in December. Currently ~1200 miles on the odometer. Took it up between 70-80mph this morning steady for about 5-6 miles and had no vibration as described on over 45 pages here. I don't have a comparison from before I had the exhaust installed.

Interesting -- my tech had the same suggestion as a possible fix.

Same truck, bone stock. No vibration. Not saying an exhaust wouldn't matter but without before/after data it your lack of vibes doesn't mean much.

Did you ever have the vibration at all? I just spoke with a guy who has a 16 trd sport 4x2 and asked about the vibe, he said his is smoth, he has KO2's now but said it was smoth for the 800 miles that it was on the stock wheels and tires and is smoth for another 1000 or so on the Ko2's and aftermarket wheels.

I'll probably die of shock when I hear what the trade in value is. I'm sure I'll hold on to it for at least 3 or 4 more months hoping that they get this straightened out. My truck stickered for 38 something had pretty many options... I paid 35 plus tax so I'm betting they'll say 31/33. I'll post it when I hear.

I think we can rule out the tires. I tried different wheels. The focus now on my truck is the rear engine mounts. Need to rule these out.

Clearly, there are widespread vibration problems with these 2016 3rd gen trucks. Surely, Toyota is now, and has been for some time, well aware of the problem. Forums are shedding light, Toyota is currently in denial. Truck working as intended? Natural characteristics? pfffffffft! I have a $32,000 2016 truck on order to the dealership manufacture date of March 11th 2016 and delivery date of April 5th 2016. This will, for sure, be discussed with the dealership before any paperwork is signed!

I commend you all on these forums for giving me and everyone else the heads up! Thank You.
