I tried to take the same shots you took of yours. The shadow in a couple of my pics makes it appear to have larger gaps than it does. There is some amount of overhang, but yours certainly appears to have larger than normal gaps.

Maybe? I don't know. Show us a wide shot of the truck.

Is that the Leer 100 XR? The overhang does seem excessive and yes, it bothers me. What did your dealer have to say about it?

Why does it look like the rear corner had an angle grinder taken to it, or is that a weird shadow? Looks very jagged.

No your right it looks like it was unevenly shaved off on the inside, its no shadow.
This is what it looks like all the way around. Bad time of day for pics.
Looks like they just made it too wide on the bed rails, poor measuring design. But no way its just this one

I don't know man, I've always heard great things about Leer products and I'm just one guy but mine is being sent back to the factory for the second time for numerous and obvious quality control reasons and I'm far from picky. The first time it was sent back I had requested the QC manager sign off on it in writing. I guess he must have been off that week because that didn't happen. 8 weeks later and no cap, they have now said they need to just build a new one. I'm on the fence on whether to just cancel the order for now until they get their sh*t together. Sorry you're having similar QC issues.

Id like to think it should be a perfect fit for 3 grand, especially if im seeing a perfect leer fit on other kinds of trucks. Im gna have to see what can happen with this. My opinion is the bed has changed ever so slightly, maybe a slight curve at the top end of the tailgate above the tail light, and leer failed to adjust their molds. I dunno

I agree, it should definitely be a perfect fit for $3k. Hopefully your dealer can continue to work for you through Leer. My dealer has been great throughout all this and he and others have said Leer has the best customer service of all the brands. According to him, and from my own personal experience, there just seems to be a large disconnect between customer service and the factory, namely the quality control department. Just my opinion. Hope it works out for you

I'm cool with mine. And we have been under tropical storm-like conditions here the last few days. A ton of rain, blowing in every direction. I only had a small trickle of a leak on one corner after three days of it. I'm pleased.

I agree crna, hope it works out for you too. Im not concerned with leaks because I sealed it myself thanks to everyones helpful posts on here, its a cosmetic concern. It looks like its ment for a different truck. If it was $300 it wouldnt bother me to much.

Jesus, and I thought the way ARE treated me was total garbage and unacceptable. At least my shell fits the truck like a glove and I've had no complaints so far going on about 6 weeks of ownership, and we've has some pretty heavy rains recently (and currently as I type this including heavy winds and lots of 'sideways' rain!), and I've hosed the truck down in a car wash and no leaks so far. Thinking the fact I went with ARE was not so bad of a choice at the moment. But in all honesty I think all three of the big shell/topper companies (ARE, SnugTop, LEER) are all kind of scummy and have pretty crappy follow up and customer service after they take your money. But to get something that is as ill-fitting as that as a brand new shell/topper from a dealer is unacceptable. Almost seems like ti was for a totally different truck, or at least the same model, but a different year!

Bought the truck. It's near flawless.
Bought the cap, (Snugtop), protects my dog and keeps my stuff dry and locked up.
It looks nice, and all appears to be well built.
I for one, design being what it is, bugs not.
    Opinions vary.

I'm totally pleased with my Leer. If it doesn't fit properly, I guess I'm just not that concerned. You can always be pissed off about something. Happy Leer customer here.

If I wanted a flawless, airtight rear, I would have bought a 4runner.

Your points are considered, but really if you had the choice to buy one that fit better than the other, you'd honestly say that you'd be totally fine with buying the crappier-fitting shell for the same money? There's a difference between nit-picking something apart and a glaring defect in the way something fits. I for one am not a nit-picker either, but would have no hesitation sending the shell back if it fit like the one in the pics posted.

That looks horrible. You're right for questioning it.

It's hard to tell because camera angle really can distort this sort of thing, but I can say it's at least in the same ballpark as my Snugtop. I think they put a huge lip around the edge because otherwise you would see the plastic bed rail caps. Plus, the bed rail caps are not sealed, so if they were exposed you could get water in from that direction. That gives them a tough choice when it gets to the back though. If they reduce the lip to make it look like a tighter fit, then how do they do the transition. I'm not wild about it, but I don't see a way to make it much better (on mine, in person). Mine also has unfinished edges underneath and I think that's lame, but that's what they all do as far as I know.

My ARE does not have unfinished edges or have a gap or hang over like that.

My ARE Z Series has no obvious gaps and though it has less overhang than some shells, (it sits well above the TRD stickers) and it has a separate bonded-on trim piece around the lower edge (or else just a thickened lip) it conforms very well to the bed. When I stopped to look at taller shells at my local Leer/Snugtop store yesterday, the owner told me that the shells are identical Gen 2 to Gen 3, only the rear window is different to align with the new tailgate. BTW, playing around with my shell a bit today and it would be really easy to get in by opening the tailgate past the very small overlap from the bottom edge of the rear window. Very different from the shell on my T100. Good thing the Taco gate locks, though once again I wondered why no keyless locking. I guess it's time for a Pac and Lock.

BTW #2, I just sealed up most of the gaps in my bed today, at the upper front corners as well as the lower rear, using 3M 2228 moisture sealing electrical tape. I used a lot of small pieces but I think it is neater than using RTV. Given the return of El Niño here this weekend it will get a good test tomorrow - it definitely leaked a bit today pre-sealing, in very heavy wind/rain/spray on the freeway.

Ditto. My Snugtop is the same, and I'm good with the ovethang...I prefer a drip line to a surface to surface with sealant. My 02 showed the bed cap, and running up to the shell it looked better
