Toynado Quicksand build

Plasti Dip brand from Home Depot at $5.98 a can. If you haven't used plasti dip yet, do it. It really is rather amazing at how easy it is. Do a couple very light coats to begin with then a bunch of heavy ones. Find some other project to do around the house so you're not pacing around waiting between each application. That's what I did and set an alarm on my phone for 15 min to go back and give it another spray.

 

Had the opportunity to do the hood swap but after sitting in a sport and looking over the scoop I decided to stick with the OR hood. I may have gotten used to it, but it did seem to make judging where the front and especially the front left corner a little difficult. But I do like the look of the hood scoop so having second thoughts... Should I have done the swap???

Got a break in the rain so took off the B-pillar vinyl and got a quick mtb ride. On the quicksand OR I think it looks better without it. I like the contrast between the two windows.

 

Ok so I've never had any desire to sleep in the garage but damn is it tempting now! Seeing the pics on Allpro's website is one thing, but DAMN are they some combination of BADASS & SEXY!!

Hoping I can start priming and painting tomorrow evening.

I recently picked up a pair of these in the group buy. Be sure to keep us up to date on your priming/painting along with brand of products. I will be looking to do this when mine arrive.

Just about to pull the trigger on the TruckCovers tonneau. Still looking at the racks. I primarily want something strong enough to hold a roof top tent (when needed).

 

Yeah I got mine in the group buy as well.

Here is a pic of them after priming with self etching primer. Used four cans. Three did a solid job but the last can made sure every inch was well covered.



I then painted with satin black but was glossier than I had wanted so will do flat black over them tomorrow.

**Keep me posted on if you do the cover with a roof top tent over it.

 

I've never seen glossy black sliders. Got a pic of them?

 

They aren't glossy black. They are satin which is to my understanding less than semi-gloss but they looked glossier than I'd like. I'll try and remember to take a pic before the flat black tomorrow.

 

What brand etching primer did you use?

 

I went with Rustoleum. Then did with their flat black, and then taped off the top fill plate and hit it with a few coats of Rustoleum truck bed spray. Had to spray that further away than the spraypaint as it is very pressurized and it would be easy to overspray. I then did a couple coats of flat spray paint over that to get everything back to flat.

The satin was glossier than I had wanted:

You can see texture contrast between regular spraypaint and the truck bed spray.

Glad you ran with that. Due to weather here is will probably be a while until I can paint. My wife knows a powder coater, but I really want to rattle can it for easy touch up.

Still need to do my test fit which will probably be on Friday. I really wish I would have done a build thread like you!

Yeah we got slammed with the rain too but luckily I have a covered area on the side of the house.

I had thought about spraying with Duracoat (a very tough epoxy paint used on firearms) but not as easy to touch up because you have to mix it. Great stuff though.

 

Dude! I love the removal of the black vinyl on the doors! I think I might be doing that as well. Did you think about putting new decals on the back bed to take out the red and make them all black? Great stuff and keep it up!

 

Did you paint OVER the bedliner? The color looks identical to me.

 

Your eyes are 20/20 my friend, yes I did a couple coats of flat over the bedliner.

Wow, really diggin' your truck and especially the tonno/rack combo.

So with the tonno/rack combo, how do you have the towers mounted to the bed rails? I have the OEM tonno and I was thinking of ways I could retro-fit my Rhino rack from my old Subaru on to it. It may not be possible so I might end up with the tonno you have.

 

Depending on the cover you may be able to attach a set of Yakima tracks to it. I had seen a couple posts where people did it (Google Yakima tracks tonneau cover) I went with the Truckcoversusa because the tracks came factory attached and the canister is small and they are built tough.

 

Ok I see now. I Googled that and I see what you mean about the tracks coming factory installed.

When you get a chance, can you post a close-up pic of the track and how the towers bolt to it?

 

I'll get you a pic later. But the Yakima landing pads side right in and the control tower mounts to it. Key feature is how easy it is to take on and off. Check YouTube for some videos of the landing pad m/control tower instal.

 

Got the Allpro sliders installed and they are BAD ASS!!
