So I've never been able to get more than about 17.5 to 17.75 gallons to a fill up - and that's if I run the truck until I get the 20-25 miles remaining warning. If my Fuelly numbers are correct, that should leave about 1 to 1.25 gallons remaining which puts us at about 18.5 to 19 gallons. The tank capacity is 21.5 gallons, I think. That means about a 3 gallon reserve.

Does that sound about right or is anyone else able to get more in the tank?

Don't be surprised if the miles remaining calculation is very conservative. People love to drive around with the Empty light on and Toyota doesn't want people running out of gas on the side of the road.

+1. they have to keep making a bigger and bigger "reserve" because people are too stupid to fill their gas tanks. If 0 miles left was actually accurate there would be cars all along the sides of the road

I just put in 18.4 and it showed DTE of 7 miles (note my average mileage is ~18.5). So my experience matches yours.

I wouldn't count on getting all 21.5 gallons since, in my experience, they specify the total capacity, not the useable capacity. However, I bet you can get at least 20.5 gallons. So using grossly rounded numbers, I'd have about 25 miles of range after hitting "zero DTE". That's about comparable to our Sienna (for whatever that's worth).

3.2 gallon reserve when the warning light comes on. It's on p.523 in the manual.

You read the manual? Is that what that book in the glove box is?

    For the record
It's not like you had to read the whole thing! Apparently you only had to read to page 523.

Didn't we all divide up the manual when the truck was released and each memorize a page? I was assigned 523, couldn't tell you a damn thing about the rest of the book...

I just went to 0 miles today and filled with 19.5 gal - been like that for me from the beginning. Once I hit 0 miles - the gas gauge goes to past E - like pegged past E. Makes me nervous/stressed I'm going to run out of gas.

Try not to make running the tank low a habit. You can damage the fuel pump. :)

No its not your mpg. The a counts for all engine run time. So if you have the car in the drive way idling it will decrease.
