I used Krylon red, but I know there is G2 or Duplicolor caliper paint. I also put a coat of Krylon clearcoat on as a topcoat.

Any chance we can get a super close up pic to show the "texture" of it? I'm curious about doing this as well but I've had bad experiences with plastidip really showing its roughness when doing larger surfaces.

does plasti-dip fade at all?? I've had mine on now for 3 weeks...seems a bit grey-ish already...though maybe my recent cleaning job was not as thorough as it could be and might still have a bit or salt on lol.

Could one of you attach a image of the actual brand that you are all using. I want to do my emblems this weekend.

That actually looks quite good. Did you remove the tailgate or do it on the truck? I think I may giver a go when I get a warm day.

Performix is the brand most people use. A company called Auto Dip is starting to produce a dip that seems to look exponentially better (basically appears like paint) but they are still having availability issues as they get the brand started.

I took the tailgate off, way easier. if you try it, you kinda have to say, "fuck the instructions". I tried the spray a coat, let dry, and repeat, but then when I peeled the tape the dip came with it.

the way that worked was to spray the initial light coat according to the directions and then just hit it with 5 increasingly heavier coats back to back and peel the tape immediately. it's the only way to get clean lines.

No, you'd have to really get close for that to happen and if you did, your paint would go right with it likely. Let it set for a few days before washing. I did all the external bits on my FJ before, and after a few days, it was rock hard, it lasted the entire year I had it, countless washes with a power washer, etc without issue.

Also did the rear bumper area above the tow hitch etc. No issues at all, held up really really well,.

Ya, that is what I've found as well, peel immediately upon laying the last coat is crucial.

So I'm trying to build up the courage of doing the rims. Question in case I fuck up, has anyone had the pleasure of peeling the dip off,and how much of a pain in the ass is it?

I haven't done rims yet but my experience with plastidip and peeling is....don't be stingy with it. The more you use, the easier it is to peel. Light coats don't peel easily. Also, mask off everything around your wheels that you don't want overspray on. Overspray is very hard to get off.

+1 to more coats. I messed my emblems up the first time, didn't get all the water out in the A's and I did 5 coats and it all peeled right off. I'm going to do my wheels tomorrow and will be doing 5-6 coats at least.
