Question regarding OEM black running boards

Regarding the black oem running boards/steps. For the double cabs, is there only one model or is there one for the long bed and one for the short?

It looks like there's only one size, but I'm not sure.

They'll all be the same size - they don't go past the cab.

 

-Just a heads up-
I know my OEM Silver Toyota Steps from my long bed wont fit on a short bed.
Here's a pic of mine when i had the side steps:


^^These are long enough so that you can step into bed if you needed to.

I dont know if the black ones you're talking about work the same way...but, i figured this would help out somewhat..

 

I picked up the steps, but there was no hardware. Does anyone know what size bolts I should be using to mount them to the frame?

 

They don't bolt to the frame. They bolt to the body.


The bolt to mount them is 8mmx1.25 pitch. I can't remember the overall length but It's pretty close to 1" or larger. I used flat & lock washers also

Janster, how many bolts per side do you use?

 

There's a total of 6 mounting points. A total of 12 bolts.
3 mounts/6 bolts per side.

 

Does mounting steps to the body like that not concern anybody else? How solid are they for normal size people?

 

Although they are mounted to the 'body' - it's not your typical body structure. The rocker panels are probably one of the strongest points (beside the frame) on the body. It's 'thick' where they mount. They feel pretty damn sturdy to me. The OEM running boards have a steal structure underneath the plastic covering.

I'm sure they have a 'weight limit', I'm just not sure what it is.

Call any Toyota dealer and ask them what the weight limit is. They should be able to tell you.

 

Hmm? OK, just struck me as odd when first seeing this & thinking it has to be bad somehow vs. bolting to frame.

 

I installed the steps today. Went on so easy. I now realize what people complain about with the steps rubbing against pants. Once I get used to them I think it wont be a big deal.

 

The same running boards I have they are very sturdy as I weigh 200+ pounds no problem. Function is not so good they sit pretty closse to the body. Looks are very good on my white truck.
