Frame rust recall

I called Toyota of Canada today. The lady on the phone confirmed with the dealer, that the frames are on back order. I'm confirmed for the replacement, just a matter of waiting for the frame to come in. That being said, I hate leaving my truck at a shop, for ANYTHING. So, if the frame is really on backorder, I don't really want to push them, since they'll probably lend me a Camry or Corolla, neither will haul 2x4's and flooring very well.

I've been advised that as soon as my frame comes in, I'll be notified. In the meantime, I can keep calling the service manager for an update. :/

 

Does it seem right to have to have to pay for parts that are damaged while the dealer is trying to take off the old rusted frame? The dealer says they may need to cut off the exhaust system, brake lines, tie rods or other parts that I would then need to replace at my expense?

 

No, that's not right. Tell the Dealer you want that in writing so you can include it with your complaint to Toyota Corp and see what he says ...

GLad I didn't have to leave mine at the shop for 3 months. I kept on driving it, guess it wasn't that bad.

 

Absolutely not! No expense to you is in writing on the the letter from Toyota! Toyota would be reimbursing them, they're trying to double dip at your expense!

 

Truck is at the dealership now. Dropped it off at 9 am this morning. I doubt it will fail. I haven't seen any issues when I have crawled underneath like others have posted in this thread.

I wasn't expecting anything else. My frame looks excellent compared to some posted in this thread. Now I can move forward and mount my BAMF bolt on sliders!

I can't remember exactly where I read it when I was researching prior to purchasing my truck, but I vaguely remember reading somewhere that Toyota either switched frame supplier or changed the coating on the frame between 2007 and 2008. And it seems most in here that actually have their frame fail are 05-07's...

 

Have been waiting over 13 months for the replacement frame on my Tacoma, has been a real fiasco from the start. Keep getting different stories from both the dealership and Toyota.
It has been inspected twice, ones by the dealership and once by the Toyota service rep. Not sure why the long wait except to say that someone has dropped the ball big time on this one.
Does anyone have addition contact information to Toyota to help expedite the matter??

I dropped my 05 taco off at my local Toyota dealership for a frame replacement and it has been over twelve weeks! Just curious to see how long it has been taking for everyone else...

 

I was told 15-20 weeks back in December.

 

Do you think these pictures of my frame, with ballooning on the lower outside rails, with the worst being next to the muffler, should be enough to fail the LSC inspection, even with no hole in the frame?

 

I was told 2-3 months. It's been 3 months. Still waiting.......

 

Toyota says you have to have a 10mm hole. Your dealer may be able to find/produce one with aggressive inspection. I haven' heard of anyone being approved for "ballooning" alone. Although my frame had ballooning and a gaping hole.

Check near the catalytic converter and behind the front wheels.

 

That is what I thought till I read this posting on a different thread, this looks just like mine and doesn't have the 10 mill hole either and his failed:

ok i figured out how to post pics so here are a few. keep in mind i didnt have the same problem as most people. i dont have any holes going through my frame what I have is the 2 piece C channel frame bending from rust in-between the 2 layers of metal and this failed it

 

Interesting. My letter said there had to be a perforation. Must be some dealer discretion allowed on what can be turned in to Toyota?

 

I found the hole they were talking about on mine. This would be right under the passenger seat.

 

Is that right by the cat on the pass side?
