I am about to purchase a new 4 cylinder with auto trans. Reading a ton of complaints about the auto and V6 combo. Anyone having similar auto shifting issues with the 4 banger?

Not at all. Love my truck, super smooth. It was a little sluggish in the 1200 mile or so data mapping period but now its fine

Are you thinking of getting an access cab or double cab?

4x4 Access cab auto 2.7, no shifting issues here. The truck is very slow pulling onto the highway and going up hills, trying to go 40 to 55 is a process, but that's because I'm a light foot and it does not bother me. When I drive it in ECT power, or if I just give it lots of gas it's fairly peppy in fact. If you don't mind the noise of the hamster wheel spinning very fast of course

Double Cab, but I don't think the little extra weight will matter, hopefully.

Yeah, I think a lot of being happy with the 4 cylinder and its acceleration depends on your expectations, its not for everyone

I'm sure Double cab and 4x4 do make a difference, but to be fair weight concerns hasn't stopped me from adding a bed mat, tow hitch, bunch of gear and my golf clubs, and more to come prob so go figure, but I started with a 4c access cab 4x2 and I'm not sure if you added weight to the double cab what it would drive like.

Absolutely true. I bought the 4cyl cause I couldn't justify paying 30k for a midsize truck. It's not like the V6 truck is fast, and it really doesn't do anything more than the 4 cyl (I'm not planning to ever tow anywhere close to 6500 pounds). It certainly is all about the expectations, I expected it to be painfully slow, and it exceeded my expectations. It's just regular slow haha.

I did not think that combo was offered. Imagine that truck loaded with cargo, 5 passengers and a full tank? Not sure it would move lol

    It wasn't, so wasn't sure.

The 2.7 DC 4x2 is a different driver than the AC 2.7 4x2 and 4x4, IMO.

I would definitely test drive. My truck was noticeably slower than the 2.7 AC I test drove.

My expectations are for a truck I can drive for a loooong time. I got bikes that go stupid fast when I have the need for speed. My truck will be for light hauling, camping, short commute to work etc. So let's hear from you double cab 4 auto owners on this shifting issue.

Several double cab 4 autos at different dealers here, not 4WD. Will surely test drive, but looking to gather as much info as possible from owners. If it has less power than my 96 Sonoma (purchased new and drove until some dick rear ended me and totaled it) with the 2.2 four I will leave it on the lot, but I doubt that will be the case.

Yes the double cab is offered with a 4cyl, but not in 4X4. Only 2WD. Is that what you're expecting?

The 2.7 works for me. I stepped up a model to the SR5 so I could get the alloy wheels, digital speed odometer and cruise control. Truck was just over 25K.

The steel rims are the only drawback to mine, and any route I try to go to upgrade those is gonna be costly. SR5 is legit I just didnt want all the chrome.

Keep an eye on the above ebay search. They have a set or 2 like my truck has on it listed now.

Also my black SR5 only has chrome rear bumper caps and a chrome trim piece around my grill along with the SR5 and Tacoma badges. I also was wanting the black alloys but grew inpatient of my dealers lies so I saw my truck on cars.com on another dealers lot so I bought it.
