Just greased all five on mine. Each of them took between five and seven pumps. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this important tip!

    Not enough
Removed heat shield. 4-7 pumps each to fill. Heard the air squeeze out right before visible grease.

All 5 had nothing but assembly lube in them. Most took 5-6 pumps but the back u-joint took 10. Thanks to the OP for the heads-up.

So I got to this today

Of my 5 zerks all had paint still on them

I was only able to pump 3-4 good pumps into them however.

Black stuff spewed out so I assume there was grease in it already.

How much of it am I suppose to pump in? Just until it spews out ?

As for the heat shield I was able to get to it by turning it and not having to remove it.

Oh and thanks for making this thread! Mine wasn't bone dry but now I know for sure they aren't!

Think of it as a flush and refill procedure.

I would pony up for a grease gun and 1 tube of grease(less than 50 bucks). It literally takes 10 minutes to grease and you don't even have to jack up your truck(I am 5'10" and 245lbs, if I can fit most people can) Someone else said the dealership said it was "ok" and they had to pump em up as well. Just saying "peace of mind" is worth it's weight in gold.

they dont care at all...all they expect is to bring you their broken vehicle to fix at the dealership....when preventative maintenance can help and sometimes eliminate you even going to the dealership...

anways i went back out there and pumped my shaft until it spewed ;)

one question, when cleaning it all up does it have to be spic and span? If left over grease gets flung around down there will it do it anything? MY neck was starting to hurt so i gave up trying to clean it

    Just the excess.
It'll fling out no matter what. If a big glob is left to fling on the exhaust, you might notice a smell; won't hurt anything.
I run a microfiber through them; grabs the grease and carries it away, instead of spreading it around.

Excess grease flung around will cause metal NOT to rust where it sticks.

I aways figured if I could see grease spatter located around greasable joints, they were greased and if someone did that, they tended to take better care of a vehicle then one that had zero signs of joints with zerks being greased.
