new ps pump and STILL whining

The ac does squeel sometimes but this is clearly ps since it gets louder turning and stuff

 

You think it's related ? The ac doesn't always make sound

 

Not to sure, it's what happened to mine. I thought it was the PS pump too. I would just flush the system make sure to get it all out and clean that screen

 

New pump came in...gonna flush the system replace the pump and clean the fuck out of the screen again and now I'm going to use royal purple atf

 

Wich line do I pull on the rack? I don't remember what one I pulled last time

 

Power steering still screams pump number 3....has to be something else

 

Have you checked any thing else? If you've flushed and replaced the pump it has to be something else

 

I'm thinking the ac? I don't know lol

 

Worth a try, check all the pulleys. That's what was wrong with mine

 

Hoping you guys can help me in here. I am having similar issues with my 2000 tacoma and the steering whinning. I put in anew pump, bled the system replaced fluid multiple times. When I heard about the dirty screen I thought that cleaning it would be my last thing to deal with but upon opening up the container there is no screen inside to be found! The casing didn't look like it had been opened before. My question is can I get a new filter for it? I bought an inline filter but they seem small in comparison and look prone to clogging. Hoping to not destroy my new pump. Thanks!

 

^^ what size tires are you running?

While I had IFS, the OEM pump struggled to make turns in a parking lot. Rack & pump demo'd.

For the SAS, I went with an aftermarket pump & reservoir, that would be Howe Performance. No leaks, turns @ idle with one finger and zero whining.

I am running stock tires on it. Just bought the truck a few weeks ago. I just purchased an inline filter from monroe because I am concerned about there not being a filter in the power steering system already. The fluid seems to bubble up a little bit after running it as well, thinking there might be air coming in somewhere in the system.

With the tires being stock I also noticed that the speedometer is off a good 8-10 mph, I plan on solving this one with an Ultra gauge. Just a few oddities to work out on this one.

 

Hope y'all can help me as well, I am about to put in a new pump, is this an at home job? I've rebuilt the tranny in the garage so I am not an amature or anything but I just want to be sure I'm doing the job right the first time! What fluid should I use, what extra steps should I take to clean that screen that was talked about, what steps should I be worried about when putting the new pump on etc... Thanks guys!

 

It's very easy.

I can do it in about 45 mins now

I fixed my issue by using oem

 

Use atf only...use carb cleaner to clean the screen

 

Sounds good, I grabbed a remanufactured pump off of summit, I'll most likely throw it on on saturday. Any helpful tips? Also, what fluid seemed to work the best for you?

i think its dextron 3 ...i used royal purple atf and works great

make sure that where the lines bolt to the pump you have one copper washer on each side of the fitting

My Power steering pump reservoir has no screen in it. I opened the top up and nothing. The steering still has a bit of whining in it as well. I purchases a cardone inline filter system for it hoping this would help out. Does anyone know of a proper place for this to go on the return line?

 

Id put it on the return line, wouldn't matter where. Whatever is easiest for you.
