You're the first person I've ever read do an 84 month loan on a Toyota. Just curious, why didn't you put more down? Like 10k?

I'm on an advisory board for a bank and we approved such loans...but I didn't think people would actually use them.

My thoughts regarding, "I'm gonna pay off early" is this...

There is no guarantee that you will have extra money. Life happens, and expenses come up.

There is only one guarantee regarding vehicle payment. The contract you signed with the dealer for the original terms.

If it was me, I'd refinance and get that bad boy out of an 84 month term.

No offense, just my 2 cents.

I don't have a lot of room to talk as I typically trade every 12 to 24 months, but I do pay cash unless 0% is offered.

Dude, dropping your apr to 1.4 or even 0 percent will not save you 75-90 dollars a month. Maybe 30 bucks. The loan term is the killer.

The dealer is wrong, putting 5k down would have saved you a lot of money.

Dealers make back end money on loans, and of course they want you to take the longest possible term.

Again, no disrespect, but did you shop by "payment" next time--don't do that!

Anyways, your money and your truck. Enjoy man!

You are doing something right. Why let the government hold on and use your money, when you can keep it liquid and invest it for returns.

Price of the truck was $39,200. Put 10k down. Financed $29,200 for 60 months @ 1.5%. Just sold bass boat and put another 10k on it. Loan balance is less than $19k. Will pay off in next two years. About $500 in accessories so far. Ordered FN f(x) Pros on Friday and will get BFG KO2s when wheels come in May.

    Damn auto correct.

I love the Tacoma truck. I had 3 of them. They were in the 30K range. When the loaded 3rd gen hit 40, I began looking at full size again.

So don't get a loaded one? I'm pretty stoked about my non-tech package TRD OR that cost $32k ... Has plenty of new fancy bits like bluetooth, large navigation screen, Qi charging, heated mirrors ... I guess if people think all the other bits and pieces that give a loaded $40k+ truck are worth it then more power to them, but it's definitely not required to have what I consider a nicely equipped truck.

I've had many "nicely equipped" trucks. But at my age I want every feature and comfort option I can get. I spend a lot of time in the truck.

If I posted the list of features/options I got with the Ram for a few bucks more than the Tacoma, it may surprise some.

Well what matters is that you are happy, there's really no need to justify it to us that choose to buy something different :)

We all want things that fit our needs and interests best, and those can be very unique to each individual.

Just curious...does anyone here have a harder time enjoying their toys/trucks while they still owe money on them? I took a small loan out on a motorcycle before and felt like the bank's bitch the whole time until I sold it.

I agree with your first statement, as I resemble that. But the second one I disagree whole heartedly. At the end of the day you still just a Dodge! Im sorry, as long as Ive been around, Chrysler products have never cut it on fit and finish, let alone get the worst fuel mileage one just about everything they make.
The main reason I think they got a lift was when Cummins came along and put lipstick on a pig. If you look at history at the big 3, Chrysler always had the worst resale value.
