Exciting morning Bluegrass! I gotta move to Guntucky. Teenagers are the same everywhere, not as bad as grown ass adults who act like teenagers. I hope you have a good day my friend.

Yeah. I think so too. But its gonna be fun trying to bend it and scratch all of it!!!

This is gonna be a long story...

My wife managed all our finances since the day I said "I do," so I never paid much attention to our money. Raising our girls was the highest priority and my wife kept saying to me all these years that we had to "save for college" and "save for retirement". So 30+ years of my wife squirreling away money and no big mansion, no luxury cars, no motorcycle, no boat, no ATV, no fancy clothes, no fancy anything.

Fast forward to 4 months ago, when my wife accidentally invited me to meet with our financial planner (I didn't know we had one):

    Here's how the conversation went:

Financial Planner(FP): I'm glad to finally meet you Lloyd. I knew you existed on paper, and now Anna has proven today that you are not a phantom person.

Anna: Yeah, he exists, but he hates dealing with money.

Me: I love money, but I'm told to not spend it. I wanna hear about how much more money I cannot spend.

FP: (Chuckling and grinning) You can't buy anything Lloyd, because you are still married to your lovely wife. But since you're here, I have to tell you what your financial picture is:

    1. You have enough money to send both your daughters to get their PhD. Twice
    2. You have enough money to retire right now and go around the world. Twice

I look to my wife with the "damn your kidding?" look and say:

Me: Can I buy a boat?

Anna: NO! I'm not sure we have enough to to pay for your daughter's weddings.

FP: If you forego paying for their second PhD's, you should be OK.

Me: Can I buy a motorcycle, since you made me give up my Honda Nighthawk 750 before our first child was born?

Anna: NO! YOu might crash and go into a coma and then I won't have anyone to retire and go around the world with.

    Me: What can I buy?

Anna: (In one long, exasperated sentence that, showed the irritation to HERSELF for mistakenly getting me invited to this FP meeting): You can buy all the stupid stuff for our 11 year old truck that you keep pestering me about.

Me: (Grinning at my bride) OK babe, I'll settle for that. Let's get outta here and grab some lunch.

Anna: Let's go. I have a coupon for chinese food :)

Well, since she let me loose on getting stuff for the truck that I've always wanted over many years. I did exactly that.

Check out my sig. Everything was done in the last four months. And I'm having a blast doing every single Mod on my own. Prior to that, the truck was bone stock.

My dad started making me save when I was a kid. By the time I was an adult, it had become a habit. In my lifetime, I've started 2 business', both being fairly successful. I sold BOTH for more than I thought possible and re-invested. My job pays well. When the economy started to tank in 05/06, I started buying up houses that were about to go into foreclosure and turned them into rentals. They all have a positive cash flow, as well as increasing our net worth considerable. Long story short, I'm good....If I quit working now, I'd be good for the next 100 years.

Can't bring myself to quit working....It's become ANOTHER habit.

So....I spend a few peso's on my truck every now and then. Good therapy.

I think we're just about cut from the same cloth Blue. Except I thought I was a good penny pincher, my wife is a 100X more. We even did the same thing as far as stocking up on pre-foreclosure homes in the mid 2000's.

Retiring is an option that I could take but I can't see myself NOT working.

Thought I'd write something to cheer up Blue after his brutal morning trying to deal with his neighborhood teenagers.

    Welcome Mike!
I'm here in Rockland County NY and travel frequently to visit the in-laws in Amherst (Buffalo) NY and Ontario Canada. So we'll probably cross paths eventually, if not already.
