Oh no beef with Song. In fact having been a Delta Airline subsidiary, I liked them.

Southwest is a great company. If I were to have to work for a passenger carrier again Southwest would be my easy first choice.

They also are one that has and continues to compensate employees well.

Did you work for World or in later years one of her sister companies North American or ATA Airline (American Trans Air)?

Delta is hiring again and getting their pay rates back up....if you were interested.

I used to work for ATA which ended up buying World & North American before they lost the AMC flying and eventural bankruptcy.

I've also done more than my fair share of engine changes on MDs...Until a few years ago, I'd guess I averaged 1+ a week...mostly #2 (SUCKS!).

Saw that yesterday and still don't understand how the event unfolded from the story.

They made it sound as if the steering bypass pin or tow bar came out/off while being towed and nose wheel steering wasn't available. They did hit a tug, there's a several more pics out there...it distroyed the tug and sent a few peeps to the ER.

I remember working for Pan Am @ Miami Airport in 91 when a small pickup went behind a plane when doing an engine test and the truck rolled like 4 times....

It's been predicted for a while...even before the new seat time requirement.

I've read of a few carriers moving off the CRJ type into mainline jets such as 737-700 size series.

I do agree that small markets will suffer (tho the government does thro a bone to choosen operators in certain markets) just not sure how long.

I don't agree that the situation can't come back in line however, if people are willing to pay for the service/convenience of having an airline at a local airport than cost can be supported and pay rates will improve...as long as the regionals can keep the majors from hiring their talent.

I remember the years following 9/11/01 where regionals were locked into good contracts with the majors and making money...flying almost empty airplanes on some routes and not able/willing to negotiate a lower cost contract...the majors either waited until the contract was up for renewal or when they went through bankruptcy to get the cost in line.

    More later...work is calling...damn airplanes.

The legacy airlines are not likely to see a shortage anytime soon. They will be the last to see it. Regional airlines, part 135 charter operators and the lower tier corporate type jobs will feel it first. The regionals have been in desperation mode in the past when the economy was improving and that was long before the 1500 hour rule. The only difference this time is they cannot continue to drop their hiring requirements to a wet ink commercial certificate.

That said, the signs are there that the pipeline is drying up and things will need to change to entice people to want to fly again.
