I see what you're saying. I likely will never purchase new so there may be a couple second gens around when (or if) mine dies.

A lot of trucks are only dead in the eyes of the owner, only to be sold and rebuilt by another owner who has more patience, time or money imo.

Infact it was nice America got the 16 before Canada so I did some reading about it and the amount of complaints there was on it turned me off immediately. So I scooped up one of the last 2 2015 on the lot in August and the 16 was released in September.

I like the 3rd gen from the cab back....front end is still not my favourite. I'm happy with my 2013 and from most accounts the shiftiness of the 5 speed automatic in the 2nd gen is a lot more stable than the 6 speed auto in the 3rd gen.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Tell that to the first gen guys still running around strong. Or the Toyota Pickup guys pre-Tacoma still starting up their little beasts every morning.

When I finally get my 2012 "project" done (is it even possible to be done?), I'll buy a regular cab, solid axle (pre '85?) Toyota pickup and build a real trail rig. I might buy a gen 3 after that - the problems inherent in those trucks should have fairly easy solutions by then.

    Exactly.

I recently purchased a first generation Tacoma for a reason, because I want my truck to be a truck, not some Lexus luxury car disguised as a truck. Too many threads on this forum from guys complaining about their truck not being "comfy" enough, god forbid you have to adjust your seat manually or you can't control your 'ass temperature'.

*sigh* I suppose it's a moot argument, like it or not in 10 years we'll all be driving Google's automated flying cars anyway.

I was going to buy a 2016 Tacoma.Because they eliminated the TRD Access cab with a 6-Speed Manual transmission I decided to to keep mine and make some improvements to it.I am really happy with the Bilstein 5100 set at 1.75 and BFG KO2 tires.I will keep my 2009 for a long time now.

The term upgrade is still subjective.

Sure the 2016 has more features, but it's features I either can't use or won't use so what does it matter?

I think most of us 2nd gen owners favor our trucks over the redesign.

I went and got myself a third gen. I never owned a second gen, but I have driven one more than a handful of times that I used to borrow when I needed to pull a trailer. The third gen has good power, the interior finally looks and feels modern. It's more comfortable, but still very similar. The transmission is a bit archaic feeling but that's to be expected (no change over 2nd gen). I have no experience with the autos so I can't comment about the weird shift points.

As for the motor: I pulled a loaded car trailer (5,100 lbs) much better with the 3.5 than ever with the 4.0. Naturally people want to defend their purchases and are also afraid of change. I was a little unsure of this motor simply because it was new. But man, you're all over-reacting a little bit. They're both great vehicles. They are both very similar. Yeah, the styling is completely up for opinion, but a lot of the second gens were barf-a-rific too!

Ohh, and mine came with all of its fluids. Forums are just full of scared-y cats! ;)

I'll put my flame suit on now.

Then you definitely need a 2nd gen TRD Off Road... in blue. :anonymous:
