Being as the receiver says Uhaul, I'd assume they didn't remove the OEM receiver and swap it for an aftermarket piece just for shits and giggles.

    Stickers don't matter either.

Anybody can reproduce the Toyota decals identically, only thing different decals proves is that someone changed them or added them where they didn't exist before.

Correct. But he did say it could tow 6500lbs, with its tow package, which, from my understanding, its only for the vehicles with the engine oil cooler and the tranny cooler, neither of which this one has.

    • Model2008 TACOMA
    • GradePRERUNNER
    • Exterior ColorBLACK SAND PEARL
    • Interior ColorTAUPE
    • Engine6-CYLINDER
    • Body TypeACCESS CAB
    • Drive Type2WD

This is from the Toyota website when I run the VIN. Not sure it that it telling much or if it would say it was TDR sport package.

I am fine with the UHaul tow hitch, I dont care about installing a tranny cooler myself, that was my fault for not looking. Im just worried about this being a TRD Package or a Fake TRD package, since the Limited Edition badge was fake, and theres no hood scoop and a chrome back bumper.

What they say it can tow has no bearing on proving you were lied to.

Whatever it says on paper is what you have. The rest isn't able to be proven, only argued.

Again, it all goes back to how the truck was advertised for sale, ie. TRD Sport, 'towing' vs. 'oem towing package' etc.

If it was advertised as a TRD Sport then you have a reason to complain. As much as the consumer needs to educate themselves the dealer still can't misrepresent a vehicle like that. The TRD Sport package is a significant upgrade and your truck doesn't have it. It may have been unintentional but I'd still go in an demand satisfaction.

The towing thing is a moot point. Edit** IF ** It was advertised as TRD Sport. That's not a descriptive term - its a registered title.

I'd save the 'demanding' part until a discussion with the seller has happened to see if something can be worked out first.

I was making reference to demanding a duel, which, I agree is more likely your second or third step.

If the dealer took it in on trade as a Sport, that's their fault. Doesn't justify selling it as one, IF that's really what they did.

OP, I hope it all works out ok. You've definitely given us something to talk about on a Sunday evening...

Absolutely right. Seen that more than once, especially selling vehicles not usually handled at their dealership. Intentional or not, we can only hope the dealer will see OP did not get a Sport and make it right.

OP I can tell you that the TRD Sport decals on your truck are not factory. The original Toyota TRD Sport decals are screen printed on a big clear sheet and then cut to size. What you have is a die cut vinyl sticker.

Does the Toyota vin search say "TRD" if you have one? I am 100% sure that I have a TRD, but mine just says Base Model:

    • VIN (redacted)
    • Model 2013 TACOMA
    • Grade BASE
    • Exterior Color BLACK
    • Interior Color GRAPHITE
    • Engine 6-CYLINDER
    • Body Type DOUBLE CAB
    • Drive Type 4WD
    • Transmission 5AT

It's not even that bad of a price for that truck IMO. See what they will do for ya....other than that, just enjoy it.

Right, as I said, Im not worried about the towing package at this time, just if it is a TRD or not, becuase yes, of course it was advertised as a TRD Sport, thats why I wanted it. However, they took down the ad of course. I really appreciate all of the feedback. Holy cow I know what to look for in a tacoma now.

When I visited my Toyota dealer here in town I looked at two used Tacomas. My salesman very intentionally pointed out to me that one of them had TRD Off Road stickers on the bedsides and told me it was NOT an actual TRD Off-Road. He then went on to explain how people put those stickers on all the time to make their trucks look cooler. Heck - there are a handful of TacomaWorld members who MAKE bedside decals for other members (many of them customized).

In the end - I bought an SR5 brand new instead. I wanted the 6ft bed. I figured suspension and lockers can be added (though expensive) but you can't make the bed permanently longer.

OP - I don't think you overpaid. If the truck is in good shape and runs well be happy with it. If your paperwork says it's a TRD Sport, which it very obviously isn't, then you might go mention that to the dealer. Otherwise if nothing beyond the sticker on the bedside says Sport anywhere I'd just leave it be. :)

Yeah, 16k was an okay deal. So what am I really missing (I dont care about the color matched stuff) Am I just missing the Bilstein upgrade shocks? from TDR Sport to Base model SR5? I dnt care about a hood scoop thats doesnt do anything, nor color matched bumpers and handles, etc.. I mean, aside from the fake TRD stuff, the truck is really nice, and I can install the Tranny cooler for under $100.00.

Will this base model tow my 4000lb boat safely? I guess thats all I really need. I mean, I know I am jumping the gun a bit, Ill goto toyota tomorrow to see what I can see, but it seems this is definately not a TRD Sport. lol

Anything else a TRD Sport has that Base Sr5 doesnt?
