At least you weren't the guy who bought a 5 lug truck, and thought it was a prerunner.

my situation was nearly identical, except I got mine off of craigslist..truck's got OR decals, and even 4x4 mudflaps. the seller clearly disclosed it was not 4x, so that was understood from the get-go but he was under the impression it had the OR package. original owner put in a db lift and slapped on stock tundra 17s with open country tires, so at first glance it looked like it could be OR. at the time I didn't really know what I was looking at so I pretty much assumed it was, until the first week of ownership I dove in and started noticing things that should be there weren't. biggest giveaway (and also most bummer) was when I discovered I was running an open diff.

turns out dude got it from a friend going through a divorce in HI then moved it with him when he came back to CA so he really didn't know anything about the truck. original owner is impossible to get a hold of, but kept all paperwork in the glovebox so I was able to find the original dealer. called them up, they couldn't give me info on whether or not it was a trd. went to a local dealer (in Fremont where the truck was born!) and asked them to look it up by VIN, nothing on the printout about it being trd..

at first i had buyers remorse, but then changed my perspective and started to see it more as a clean slate. im learning a lot in the process (thanks to tw), doing all the maintenance myself, and really looking forward to knowing the truck inside and out. Had I bought it at a dealer like OP, I probably would've tried to get at least something back from them but no such luxury when dealing with CL

Yeah the TRD sticker isn't even in the right place. Looks too high up towards the top of the bed to me

Other than what you know you are missing with color matched items, hood scoop and the shocks, I believe the Sports also came with 17" wheels, mechanical LSD, and a 120v plug in the truck bed.

Didn't see it mentioned, but the TRD packages also come with different seats, with 'thigh bolsters' and different fabric. On the plus side, you should have a passenger seat back that folds flat. TRD models delete that feature.

Traded in my Nissan my wife's 09 Nissan Murano to a dealer here in Hawaii and it was posted on line as the SE model when it was the base S model. I called them and told them that they are deceiving people the changed it and said it was an accident.

Okay. well. I decided against going back to the lot. I ended up finding the ad I responded to and honestly it didnt mention the TRD Sport. I just saw the fake stickers in 20 of the 35 pictures they had online and I assumed. My fault. The dealer told me it would tow 6500 and I took him on his word which is also my fault. I didnt check for the tranny cooler becuase Im a dumbass who gives people the benefit of the doubt. Seems to me this blunder was pretty much all me. lol. I will be installing a tranny cooler and hopefully that should be enough to pull my 3500lb boat and trailer out of the lake on a ramp. I think it should after reading the entire damned towing bible here on TW. haha.

Thanks again to all the TWDetectives with sharp eyes and all the toyota knowledge! I am taking this how it is. I got a good deal on a smooth riding 08 Tacoma PreRunner SR5 V6 4.0L. I love the truck so far.

by the way... anyone know a way to get this damn fake TRD stickers off and the Fake LTD badge off without screwing up the paint?

    Sorry for the anticlimactic outcome.

Four the badge heat it up with a blow dryer and get a fishing line behind it a start sawing with constant pressure clean left over residue with WD40 or GooGone. Stickers hear them up to blow dryer and use your finger nail and pull it off clean up the residue the same way.

They're placed too far up. This is what they would look like from the factory:

Forget the 'anticlimactic outcome'! Sounds to me that both you and the poster above came out ahead in the end, by accepting what happened and going from there. Plus you learned a lot about buying a used vehicle.

There have been a lot of threads on TW that the OPs weren't so accepting. They wanted to take down the dealerships at all costs, and would not accept any responsibility for their 'misery'...
