So I finally finished my Black headlight mod and wow, it took forever. I have been reading on forums and doing research and have been seeing how everyone has been doing this mod in 5 hours or less. I don't know how that is physically possible if you are doing all the steps correctly. It took me 11-10 hours to finish everything and that's not even including letting it dry over night. I ended up not using the rubber butyl and just using the oem glue because from research ive heard that it holds up fine if thats the first time that you have done the BHLM. And also put a decent amount of rtv silicone around it. Now i know that people are against silicone but its still just a back up in case the oem glue doesnt work, I didnt Mix the silicone and oem glue together. I even found automotive rtv silicone which was a plus. I put one coat of adhesive promoter primer and 4 coats of black fusion paint waiting 20 mins in between. I also tinted/smoked the reflectors and signaling covers so they still show when needed while still looking black. I waited at least 2 hours for it to dry becaues I live in Hawaii Then pre-burned the bezels for 5 mins each. after waiting 30 mins for them to cool down I put the headlights together with the silicone for reassurance. Then waited over night to put the headlights back on the truck. Over all I am very pleased with the results and it only costed me about $15 and a saturday. I returned the $20 rubber butyl. Here are the results.

Tell me how long it took you guys to do your BHLM, What you did, and post pics if you want!

To execute a proper job and allow the quality to show = Time.

I've seen people do their BHLM in 2-3 hours. It looks like it took 2-3 hours.

You did it properly and you'll have the workmanship to show for it for years to come.

    Great Job!

    thank you!

Yeah thats what I figured. Im a little OCD when it comes to these things so i want to make sure that i dont have to do it again and have moisture get inside. I would rather take the time and do it right to make it look perfect! thanks!

So you tinted the turn signal reflector bowl and the lenses?

I took my time and did it in about 8 hours. 3 years later still looks great and no leaks. Didn't add any sealant. Re-baked the housings after assembled with spring clamps all around the flange.

Yes with VHT tint. I didn't do the bowl inside the glass because there was no need, it is covered. 3 coats to get it that dark. The turn signal is easily visible when it lights up its awesome! But the reflector I didn't really give a shit about so I just made it super dark as well. I think it looks better.
I totally would if it didn't take me 10 hours haha!
Dam that's awesome. All the complaints about water seeping through and condensation inside is just because they don't take their time im guessing. I really filled in those cracks with the silicone carefully when I did it. And also need to give it enough drying time or pre-burn it a couple of times. Just gotta do the research and take the time to do it right.
    Thanks!

Yup, hood scoop, front lip, rims, and emblems are all plasti dipped. I'm pretty experienced with plasti dip so I'm confident in my work. But I'm going to be getting new rims/tires, bumper a lots others. A lot of these things are just temporary until I can get the money to do what I want.

It may have taken a whole day, but its a labor of love!
Painting is always the most annoying part and it takes the longest because you want to make sure it dries fully ect ect.
But you took your time and that means itll last forever! Plus it looks awesome

Thanks! Ya I do enjoy doing this stuff so I don't mind. It just took a lot longer that predicted. It's a little harder because I live in Hawaii so the waiting time is 2x as long cause of the humidity. I definitely don't regret taking my time and making sure it's done right because it definitely looks awesome!

I will take pictures when I can. I haven't checked the dtrl but the signaling is very visible. If your worried then just put less coats of tint.
    Thanks bro!!

@AzN_DOOD69 i let the paint dry overnight on mine too before re-assembling the housings, roughly a day, day and a half total start to finish

So I just waited 2 hours for the paint to dry then pre-burned it so it speeds up the process. And also the next times it is exposed to heat/sun it won't fume inside the headlight and create condensation. I recommend doing the preburn a couple of times then letting it dry over night before reassembling to be 100% sure. But I'm sure you got good results because you took your time
