Yes yes! Keep the convo rolling. Appreciate the loyalty to the group! I also like the pictures thus far. Here's another. Got the full LCE exhaust in and running for a few weeks now. Ready for the next mod... Thinking lift...?

Lift 32" Tires K&N intake Fender Flares
It would be nice to see this thread take off so I'll hop in. She's got a 2" lift in the front and 1.5" in the back with 33" tires.

So what do you guys think should be the next upgrade(besides armor). How about a 2.75" Old Man Emu complete suspension lift and 35" tires?

Oops, I forgot, I do have a '98, it I should say the wife does. She just loves the thing. I've been ordered to keep it on the road for as long as possible. Shouldn't be a problem. She only puts 3000 miles a year on it.

    Installing new exhaust.

I was able to talk the Mrs into letting me get a lift by telling her I would be able to take care of her baby better. Best $2200 I ever spent.20160107_052842.jpg

I'm not sure how most others feel but I have not seen too many tacomas with 35" tires and most likely would never try to do that if I plan to still use it for commute and/ drive-to-trail offroading. I would think 35" tires would wear these smaller tacomas out... especially if its not re-geared.

I also don't think you could fit 35" tires comfortably with the OME 3" lift either. I know guys who are having rub issues on flex with 33" tires.

I certainly am not saying it cant be done, it can BUT I would warn that it may be a long term mistake if you plan to have this truck around for several years and as a DD. I would never do it, especially because of the 4-cylinder, but more power to you if you have a completely custom/ special build ahead. I would love to see it. My $0.02

I'll bite. 2000 SR5 2.7L. Full rebuild at 197713 miles. Have a 3" OME kit sitting in my shop. Just dropped the motor back in and am still going through break-in. Once i'm sure everything is good and I get 1000 miles on the rebuild, i'll put the lift on.

98'-00' Tacoma's are the best looking year models IMO still classic looking without the flat front end

With all that said. What's the consensus on optimal tire sizes for the 98-00 Tacomas with an average 3" lift? 6cylinder? 4cylinder?

33's go perfect for 1st gens. 6 cylinder can get a way without a re-gear. But when you start adding armor and RTT's that's when re-gearing is required.

    4 cylinder I don't have experience but I'd assume you'd wanna re-gear

    Complete rebuild at 197k miles
It was definitely a challenge. Rebuilt twice. First time I fired it, the oil pump broke apart and put metal all in the motor (found metal on the Intake Camshaft) and the oil pan was full. Had to completely tear it down, clean out and reinstall everything (replaced crankshaft/piston bearings again). It didn't need a rebuild, just a new HG and cylinder head, but I had to pull it anyway to replace the timing system, so I decided to rebuild. That was an 8 month project since I work a lot. Hoping to get 200k, at a minimum, out of this motor and let my son drive it when he gets to that age.

I am hoping I can get away with 33" skinny and not have to re-gear, at first. Eventually re-gearing and lockers are an absolute.

Anyone have 4 cylinder with 33"?
