Truck Camping Photo Thread

From this weekends camping trip.

 

Lance campers sure are nice, I'd be totally into it if somebody else was paying! Looks like it's the lightest of the three even though it's 19' long. Too rich for my blood though. It's like airstreams--how nice does it need to be really?

Kalispell looks like an interesting rig. How can it really be only 11' long? Not sure I like the floor plan. Why put a wardrobe on one side of the bed? I would definitely be putting a tape measure on that. Don't like cramming my 6'1" into a barely long enough bed.

Mine is a 2011, really clean. Previous owner put bigger wheels and nice radial tires on it so it's got a little extra clearance. I'm way more boondocker than KOA Kamper so that was a nice feature for me.

 

Dedicated beds are nice for sure. My prior trailer (a 4400 lb two-axle that was a bear to pull) had bunks in addition to the dining area conversion to bed. I slept in the lower bunk. But the bed in the Starcraft converts to dining area really fast.

One thing to keep in mind when you mention maneuverability: the shorter the trailer the harder it is to back it up. Not what you'd expect until you're in the situation.

I helped a guy haul a three-axle airstream one time. Backing it up was stupid easy. The short ones, you cut it and then it's a race to get the turn under control. A tiny little steer will get it cutting hard, and in 20 feet you're about to jack knife with steering wheel at the lock. You'd have to be blind drunk to jack knife a long trailer when backing. Short ones are a handful.

I think the Avenger ATi that I had would be perfect for you. Not to pricey.

 

Sounds like you want yours for the same kind of missions I use mine for.

Consider this: you get way up this single lane road, it becomes more and more narrow. And then it dead ends. The last conceivable turn-around point is quarter mile back. And that turn-around is tight. Your ability to back it up will be much more important than your ability to pull it up there with the whole thing behind you.

 

Looks like one to go see. But it's not a Starcraft. KZ 14. Looks similar to mine, but no front window. You could probably pay less than that. What they're asking is less than what I handed over on Friday.

What's up with the TV antennas? My 2011 has one. Does anybody actually try to watch TV from a tower any more? I've considered whether to remove mine, but probably more trouble than it's worth unless I think of something I'd rather use that hole in the roof for.

I believe we were completely out of beer by this point haha, as it started coming down hard while the last bands were finishing up the previous night. This was our makeshift trash can at the time while we packed soaking wet junk into my truck lol

 

Yea I'm dying to get out.

 

Still a bit too early in the season here... been itching to get out for a month or so now
