    Pretty much!
It's just really exposed, running (it looks like, from what I can see of the pics) right behind the sway bar, under the trans.

If you are talking about the Lexus 4.0L V-8...IIRC it came out in 1989...well before the 3.4L.

I have to disagree with you on this Vince. The Lexus 4.0L was designed from their Indy race engine. Why over built...these engine easy get 3-400,000 miles. Which is on par with the 3.4L.

As far as us 4Runner guys...the only real problem with the 4.0L, it makes most of its power in the higher RPM's....above 4,000 RPM's. Where in as you know...off road you want your power low in the RPM range...and it's also low on torque. They make somewhere around 256 HP and 260 torque....and you have to run premium gas!! Not saying it won't work in our 4Runners...there's actually a 4Wheeler Company in Oregon that builds kits to install these 4.0L in our 4Runners.
This is why I could never live in California!! I believe in protecting our air...but they go crazy overboard!! And it this point...it's a just a huge money maker!!
    Me and you both brother!!!

i dont mind the smog testing as other states do inspections and whatnot where CA doesnt. BUT the state is still in the red. So it does no good being a money maker.

Then you can sit and watch as your beloved thread gets taken over by "ugly stepchildren!"

I just told @SanTanValleyDirt to get his ass back on here since this all pertains to him too.
I've considered it. Thing is I'm wary about ever bringing it back to Arizona. It killed the Mudrunner once, it could do it again
Agreed. Under tranny not smart. I'd either try to mirror the driver side or do something to get it out of the way. Maybe side pipes that dump in front of the rear wheels

@Russtoy we were talking about the 4.0 V6 that is in the 4th Gen 4Runners and 2nd Gen Tacoma's. I know the 3.4L and 22RE are kind of the pinnacle of Toyota motors. Nothing the 4.0L V6 is a bad engine but it doesn't have as nearly a good reputation for being a great long lasting motor. That could also be because it is a newer engine?

Remember Phoenix and Tuscon do have smog test. They didn't check my address when I registered my car in Phoenix, but put living address in Coconino County and my mailing in Phoenix.

Depends what part of the conversation you're on. Last night we were talking about the V8 4.0. Today we were talking about the V6 one you can find in the 2nd gen taco and 4th/5th gen 4runners. Or at least I was. I should've been more clear but in my grogginess I forget there was another Toyota 4.0 we had been talking about
Easy to say when you have a brand new vehicle! The old cars struggle with this shit. I might have to buy a $130 smog pump just so the Firebird can pass. Really hoping I don't have to :notsure:

Just noticed auto correct nailed me again :censored:

Kinda lost on the point here. Wouldn't that still mean I'd have to drive back to Arizona when it's smog time?

Would love me some cool side pipes. Would definitely make it easy as far as protection goes. Well, at least for the pipes. My passengers, wellllll

When I lived in Phoenix I went to a Phoenix DMV, gave them a random address in Flagstaff(Coconino County) and used that as my "home" address. I then gave them my mailing address in Phoenix. So it was technically registered in Coconino County were there was no smog.

Doesn't mean you can't register it there lol. I lived in CA for over a year rocking AZ plates till I sold it and got the Camry. Still had a AZ license the entire time

    Bastard. Selling a first gen.

Don't you also need to get an AZ license too?

Not sure. I registered my Camry in CA with an AZ license. I figured AZ wouldn't be as strict as CA, but who knows. The car I sold with AZ plates was a P71 Crown Vic. My 1st Gen never had AZ plates sadly sold it right as I was moving to AZ.

My passengers would definitely burn. I marked each and every one of them with mud when they got put. Can't image how they'd make it over a side pipe if it's sticking out lol

Camry had CA plates and when I bought I had to register it in my name. When I moved back from AZ to CA I kept my AZ license, and they let me register the Camry in CA with my AZ license. I never got my CA license back the couple years I lived there when I moved back from AZ.

I am going to hate the mud with my sliders. I can't clear the sliders without hitting my pant leg, just not possible lol

Ah ok. Did you ever get pulled over like that?

Also did you ever have 1car registered to AZ and one to CA at the same time or were all cars registered to 1 state at a particular time
