Hey guys, this thread may be on here already but it's hard to navigate on my phone and look at all of them. Any of you have recalls done on your tacoma? Currently waiting for a new Frame but my rear suspension is so bad now (leaf springs maybe). Bounces around over bumps and makes a rattling noise. I know when I bring it in they are changing the frame and springs so I assume that fixes the problems. Just want input if anyone had the same issues

You'll get a new 3+1overload leaf pack, should be a little better than your 11 year old leaf pack. If you are hearing a knock over bumps in the rear go out and lift up on the bed at each corner to see if the bed bolts have backed out. Its pretty common on older trucks. If they are, hit them with penetrating lube for a day or two before you try to mess with them, trust me on this one.

Or, you could let the dealer fight the bed bolts if thats your knock. I'd still lube them beforehand though, to lesssen the chance they break something.

I don't think it's a loose bolt. It's a metal rod (spring or shock). This is my ladies truck so I don't have much experience with them but I get to do everything for it . It rattles around the frame of the bed above the tire. You can def see it because it's digging into the frame

I told the Toyota guy about it and all he said was I'm getting a frame and new sets of leaf springs and the shocks are good ( idk about that). Just questioning the safety of it because it's not fun to drive.

    You don't get free shocks.

If you think they're bad, buy replacements.

Are your shocks original? If they are, I doubt they are "good". Mine were toast at 150,000. You might also look at the leaf pack you have on, if one of the leafs is broken it will clang or knock too. Which is what the recall is for.

Original and I will get a pic up soon. I know the shocks weren't free but I'm going to have them replace them anyways

As you can see its digging into the frame and on the other side it made a hole. Kinda shocked the dealership didn't even menation it when I went in for recall inspection and clearly made it known I was worried about that rear suspension.

Well, that would make a noise. That's part of what used to be a shock. Better plan on getting new shocks. How long before your frame replacement? I wouldn't want to drive it like that for too long. Really, it would be better if you just took it off. You could get your shocks now, and just replace the rears when you get them, then let them do the fronts with the recall.

Probably another month and a half...I planned on bringing it in this weekend to get it checked out and advice on what to do. If I have to switch them out its fine since shocks aren't covered under the recall

The rears are easy, just bolt on. The front springs have to be compressed to do the front shocks. I'm super curious to see the bottom of that shock to see whats left. :)
