I had an idea this weekend as I was driving home from the Catskills and passed a little CB shop and remembering I needed to buy an SWR meter so I could set up my (future) antenna: would anyone be interested in setting up a little lending program for these 1-time-use tools like an SWR meter or a ECGS bearing tool?

I figure we could buy something, set up a thread that keeps track of who has what, then simply ask that people pay shipping to the next person in line.

Too much trouble? Good idea? What other items/tools would be handy to have, but aren't too unwieldy to ship around?

There's already an SWR pass around, and the last guy that borrowed my ECGS tool didn't have the courtesy to pay for shipping. He stuck a five in the box and said that's all he had on him at the time, but at least he shipped it back. So next time I ship, I'm charging like the parts stores do, if you end up keeping it, well then you already paid for it.

A lot less then tools but we used to let neighbors and relatives use or netflix dvd's but then we'd have to haunt them to get them sent back so no more. I think having them pay in full in advance is the only way to go then you don't have to waste your time energy and probably $$ on getting it back.

More like I can't believe anybody here has the balls to say they can't afford shipping a free tool back.

Good idea. But. Over the years (a lot of years) if I thought I would need a tool more than once, I just bought it. Saves a lot of hassle, frustration, time and money in the long run. You also end up with a great assortment of tools over the years for other projects.
