After being a 3rd gen regular for a while I am finally ready to shop around. I got my financing papers all ready to get going but I need a good sense for what a good goal price will be for my Taco.
I want a really simple build. A DCLB OR 4x4 + tow package. No other options. MSRP according to Toyota site is $35,890. I know Toyota does not bend much on price but I have seen some people on this forum get a few $k knocked off.
I calculated TTL to be around $2300 from my county's online fee calculator. I would really like to keep all costs less than $35,000, so perhaps the sticker lowered to $33k or so. Are my hopes set too high? Yes, I know about True Car but I thought I would ask here to see what sorta deals I might be able to expect. Thanks a ton!

I'm in the Seattle area, bought it in Bellevue, October, with tax almost 41K and I don't care :) I'll have for the next 12 years or so, had my 2001 for 15, just gave it to my son. So a few G's either way didn't seem important to me. Paid about $500 over dealer. Love the truck!!!

prices are going to be impacted regionally, and where you're at it may be harder to get a good deal due to probable limited supply. truecar in your zipcode seems to imply that you'll pay near MSRP for the truck. I used truecar, but for that same truck in my area it was about $2k less. So what can you expect to pay? Unless you've got a connection or program (costco, something similar) that gives you a great negotiating position, I would expect the truecar story to be accurate. What people in other areas of the country pay may not be relevant, unless you're willing to travel for the purchase.

In the Seattle area I just paid $34,327 for this same build (except that mine came with mudguards -- $95 invoice price). That's invoice + $200 + TDA ($739 in my region). With sales tax ($3,261), title ($50), license ($211), and gas ($10) it was $37,860 out-the-door -- roughly $1700 below MSRP. But Tacomas do seem to vary quite a bit in price by region.

This is not too far off from my hopes. I live in Wyoming and taxes are pretty low for cars. After trade I'd be looking at around $1700 for tax.

We bought our 7568, the truck you want, for 500 under msrp from cathedral city here in socal. That's 35600 and 39100 out the door. It was tow package and carpet mats just like we wanted. I did universal mud flaps by myself

Searched for 2 months and then randomly called dealer 130 miles away and they had one just come into their allocation. We drove to give deposit. Picked it up 28 days later. You will not get this truck by waiting at one dealer. You need to call and email EVERY dealer within 150 miles. Use Toyotas zip code finder on their site

I did email 30 Toyota dealers within a 2hr drive. The price range was huge -- from the deal I got all the way up to MSRP + $600 in "dealer fees" -- that's a $2300 spread! As another poster said, if you don't get the deal you want in WY, you might think about driving to CO or UT where there are more dealers. Maybe if you get a good offer from an out-of-state dealer, your local dealer will match it.

I never visited a dealer in person except to pick up my truck when it arrived. I did all the dealing by email.

Yep, I am 12 miles from the Colorado border. Most folks here buy their cars in Colorado in Ft. Collins or Denver. Definitely worth the short drive if it's a good deal.

Have you checked out TrueCar/Edmunds/etc. to level set on what others are paying in your region? That would be a good place to start. As CRVZ mentioned above, high demand and limited supply are going to make it a little tougher to negotiate - gain as much info as you can beforehand and be patient. Good luck!

I paid $37042 for that same build + P&T w/JBL. That price was roughly $2400 less than MSRP. Once you add dealer fees and taxes, my driveout price was $39500ish before trade-in.

Yes, Texas. The invoice price on the P&T w/JBL is $2700. So my price without that would have been around $34300. Driveout would have been about $36400... So not that big a difference.

OP you may also want to try Riverside Toyota in Phoenix AZ. There was a thread in the AZ section where the dealer guy was helping out the AZ folks here. They got some
    Rather nice deals
And he can give you a quote here on TW. I can find the thread if you're unable to its something like 2026's available in AZ or available tacomas az. Plus the weather is amazing down here right now :) fun "road trip"

Also not sure if you've seen the trailers for the 2017 Tacoma Pro but if you're willing to wait you may like what it has to offer as well.

If you are really going to wait for a deal, it may be a few years.

And you'll never see a Pro less than MSRP

No desire for a Pro. Who said anything about a Pro? I like stock stance, wheels, tires etc.
