My skid plate did not hold derp worth a shit. I cleaned and put on 4-5 coats. Six months later, crap. I think it's because RUST BELT:mad: Probably have to powder coat a after market skid:D

    WD-40 will soften it:thumbsup:

Took off one flare today because the trim was coming off so bought some new trim and some clips. I also bought some black plastidip to do all the flares. Question is with the trim. I wasn't planning on taking the other 3 flares off to dip them but that would include the trim. Thinking I should put the other flare back on with the new trim so it will all look the same or should I tape off the trim and not include the trim at all?

Isn't the trim black? Probably be easier with them on and you can slide the tape between the flare and the truck body.

Don't think the tape would fit between the trim and the truck body. I was going to use the trim as the edge. And if I've been reading right, don't let it dry all the way before pulling the excess off, get a better line after waiting only 10 mins or so?

Might be a lot of trouble, but taking all the flares off and then dipping them would give you the best results. I've thought about pulling mine off and having them line-xed.

Try a deck of cards and slide them between the flare. That's what I used for my hood scoop and it worked like a champ...

Also, 10min is too long to wait. As soon as you are done spraying the final coat peel up the tape or the cards.

Was trying to avoid spending another $100 on trim and clips. I'll try the cards and see how they do. Thanks for all tips!!

I bought a $1 pack from Walgreens. They were the large cards that kids usually play with. Took less cards to cover the area. Just overlap each one on the other's side and it makes a nice background. You can slide some cardboard or plastic behind the cards and tape that off to cover more for overspray too.

I was going to do the Tacoma badges on the doors black, but I found some gray instead and thought that might look cool. But it doesn't blend in with the Silver Sky like I thought it would, so will probably redo with black.

That might have been the better choice, maybe I'll run back to Autozone and see if they have it. There were a bunch of different cans there.

I don't know if you have a Menards near you, but they usually have a pretty good selection, you could try some blaze orange, j/k:D
    I kinda like that gray.

plasti1.jpg plasti2.jpg plasti3.jpg Ok, I did the drivers side. Found that if you are careful taking the fender off the trim will be ok. The front was loose in one place so got some gorilla glue, put a few drops on a paper towel and let it sit until it got a little tacky. With a toothpick glued that loose part back on. Gorilla glue expands so didn't use a lot, didn't need to. I'm not sure how this will hold up. On that close up, I had a towel in my hand and just wiped off some pollen and stuff off of it lightly and it left marks. The dip was put on Tues. evening so it's been 3 full days of drying. Still looks way better than it did. The black really makes the truck look better overall. Opinions....I used Rustoleum flexidip and not Plastidip. Is there a difference in them?

Can one use windex instead on their spray kit? Will that make any difference?

I prefer the contrast of black against the silver, personally. Especially with the black mirrors and door handles. Looks good in photos and even better in person:
