Not unless you have manual hubs. I believe with the front ends on our trucks cv's are always spinning? Still some residual resistance. Ive been wrong before tho.

 

Automatic differential disconnect.. both the transfer case and differential get disconnected. The cv joints and the axles spin, but not the dif.

 

Technology... It's all about gas mileage. The oil in the front dif is probably worth 1.5mpg.

 

Never really read on how ADD worked. My previous trucks where manual hubs.

There is a pneumatic device called an "actuator" attached to the front differential that effectively slides the driver side shaft out of the differential. On trucks that have ADD Toyota uses "live hubs" (see hubs section below). This means that both front half shafts and the front diff spin even in 2WD (but not the front drive shaft)."

 

If the front diff never span except for 4wd, it would make it really difficult to break in the front gear set.

 

I was starting to drunkenly think the same thing.

Although... When do you ever do highway speed in 4wd for hours at a time?

 

That's why you don't ever have to worry about break-in for a front gear set. Your only using it at low speeds...unless you wanted to use 4WD around town.

I quit using tapatalk a few months ago. I have found the mobile browser to be better... but it took me a few weeks to get used to it

 

I'm still a maybe at this point. It's going to be weather dependent for me. If it's nice on Sunday, I'm going to stay home and get some yard work done. As of right now it's looking nice for at least the first half of the day. If it looks like it's going to rain all day, I'll go with you guys. We'll see how the weather forecast pans out!

Anyone else need an exhaust reroute done? At A1 muffler in Everett and he said he can do it for $100. @Greddy and I are getting ours done next week and may be able to get a group discount

 

I've got new y pipe but it's for 2wd. Just needs to be lengthened. Although that deletes my last 2 cats and I kinda already know how muffler shops feel about removing emissions components.
