Just remember that most if not ALL airlines use a third party repair station to fix their aircraft for phased maintenance inspections/corrosion inspections and repair like BF Goodrich. I used to work for them in Everett, WA. working on the FedEx and Southwest maintenance lines. We did good work and our QC dept. was on top of things, but who knows what the other repair stations are like. Also Overseas carriers and their repair stations don't have an FAA to govern them.

That's a lot of work, but a really nice sim. I have only been in a A-6E, EA-6B and FA-18G sims. Would love to get in other civilian sims someday.

After posting that I googled all those places, come to find out Salt Wells also burned down. Interesting that it was owned by Tia Maria Torres, of Pit Bulls and Parolees.

I'm a line guy for sure. I've done the C check line/gear change/out of service/special service crap & I gotta say, I'm a line guy. Other than the gate calls at departure & on delay (with boxes and/or passengers waiting) it's a great job...and actually I enjoy the gate calls. It's just the environment and work that fits me. It has happened & does happen at small stations but, I see most airlines maintaining line maintenance in house with core employees in the foreseeable future.

Especially for western based MROs I think quality is on par with work accomplished in house. Regardless of where the work is performed, the holder of the ops cert is responsible for ensuring work standards/quality/extent/intent meets the requirements set forth in that holders maintenance program. Does it always happen...who knows? I could envision a scinario where certain jobs (maybe excluding non-routine findings where most are billed time & material) are fixed bid and could see vendors making sure they come in at or under bid. That said, if it happens much or in the wrong place, you end up with the ValuJet/SabreTech/STS deal.

Just call Mx Control and MEL that writeup so we can get that plane pushed back !!! (Heard that one several hundred times) I never liked it when the donut isn't installed correctly and the lav is dripping blue stew on the ramp. LOL Changing tires and/or brakes in the rain during a service check

One of these is on display at the Pima Air Museum in Arizona. It is incredible to see the size of it in person.

Haha...I hear ya. I'm an ex mx control guy at my current employer & another airline.

Everyday I'm scheduled to work is a day of aircraft turns and we have little ground time. Sunday I think I had two 777s & a MD/DC10-30. All of which arrived within an hour of each other...stayed 2 to 3 hours & left. I will OIL a brake or tire or lav if it's legal. Because of the lack of ground time at Memphis, service checks (let alone A checks) are hardly ever scheduled so it ends up mostly being just routine turns or working in bound write ups.

Speaking of blue juice. Freighters are about the best...we contract out lav service so about the only time we get near them is if one of the drivers drops a bottle of water in the shiter and the drain won't seal...that turns into fishing in the juice. The good part is, I work with a few cats that don't like going up high so I've struck a deal with them. They put on the glove and dive in the blue juice & I'll climb on the JLG & go up. It works for all of us.

Guess who gets to spend the next week cursing Boeing electrical engineers while pouring over schematics and wire diagrams trying to figure out how to retest numerous individual wires and connections. Woohoo!

That is a pretty smart deal on your end ... They get the blue end

I walked up to a EMB120 once and the plane had been on the ramp for awhile heat soaking at 120 degrees ramp temp. Pilot said the lav was stuck. It was my turn so I got the cart to service the lav. The problem was a female pax left a present stuck to the inside of the bowl. I held my nose and with gloved hand thumped it down and serviced the lav. Sprayed the cabin with smell good and called mx cntrl. Ops almost had to get a new crew because they were 'sick to their stomachs'. Flt attendant almost heaved when I told them what I did.

    Good times !!!
