Anyone with as much time as he has to spend talking about a pickup truck has issues... I think his supercharged truck is force injecting assholeness into him.

Anyways... I did a axle dump on my trucks exhaust which has a stock muffler and I wouldn't want it any louder than it is. The axle dump may have made it a little bit louder but if any it was minimal. Tacomas already have an exhaust note stock they are not super quiet. As for intake systems I have not seen anything yet. I wouldn't mind getting a smooth tube but don't think I would do away with the stock filter box it's a pretty darn good setup as is.

Mr. Know-It-All with an answer for everything and doesn't even own a 3rd gen. So I don't know how he can tell us what is good or bad for our 3rd gens.

He's the only one I've blocked. I can take a little trolling and joking but I've never seen him post anything productive.

I've seen a dyno where a K&N drop in actually lost HP, can't remember the specific vehicle though.

nothing more than a hole in the side of the air box, it gives it a throatier sound.

not my pic, just one I found online for you, many have done it over the years.

Called them a month and a half ago; they said their exhaust system was in production and to check back in a couple months. That was faster than I expected; however, I didn't see an option on their website for the long beds.

This is the kit I'd go for. Had a Borla muffler on my Traiblazer SS and also on my Frontier, and both sounded good. Those were mufflers I had welded in so I don't know how the catback system would compare in sound. From my experience, all the catback systems for my previous trucks came had a bigger muffler than the muffler I'd choose to have welded in.

the only thing is the piping is 2.5 instead of 3 for magnaflow...

Let's not forget about sound and quality between the two as well.

I ran Magnaflow in the past but didn't have them long enough to experience their longevity. While I was running Magnaflow, I read reviews and decided against them for my next truck. Needless to say, I had Borla in my last two trucks. One being a V6 Frontier and it sounded good. Got a lot of compliments being it was a midsize truck with an exhaust and didn't sound ricey. It wasn't their catback system though.

Oh yeah, looks like Borla sells an extension pipe to run the SB catback in the LB.

I have about 180 miles on my truck and it's time to start taking it apart lol

On the exhaust side - it looks like the 2nd gen exhausts ( after the y-pipe) fit with a little modification. There's a thread here where I found that out - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...t-your-3rd-gen-with-mild-modification.397675/. I ordered a 2nd gen MBRP turn down on Amazon and will let you guys know how it turns out. It was cheap enough to experiment with but if it works I should be happy with the sound. It looks like you need to cut/shorten the pipe between the y-pipe and muffler and modify or change the flange on said pipe along with maybe a different gasket. Here is a youtube video with a slightly different 2nd gen exhaust on a 16 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnXG0w3Wu-k

Also - I knew the engine had some form of a coolant cooled exhaust manifold before I even ordered the truck, but I took a look and it's not anything like I thought it would be! I'm guessing with enough time there will be straight through, gutted or catless pipes from the heads or higher flowing ones and a better y-pipe.

On the intake side - I took the stock intake and box out and checked how the K&N intake I took off my '12 FJ before I traded it in would fit. It's almost a complete drop in fit believe it or not. In fact the only thing keeping me from installing the filter and intake tube was the fact that the air flow sensor in the 16 is a slightly larger diameter and the bolt pattern is also slightly larger. I did not have anything to enlarge the hole in the aluminum intake precisely enough to ensure it would seal - drilling and tapping a small hole would take care of bolting the sensor in if I did. The K&N "airbox" or shield or whatever you would call it looked like it also might bolt in exactly where it would need to be but does not line up correctly and looked like the washer reservoir was in the way. I'm going to try to get the sensor to fit properly I just didn't have the time to do it today.

Is there a reason to wait till 5k miles? I plan to get one but Will wait if there is a reason to wait.

I have the regular 40 series flowmaster and an 18" black stainless pipe on mine. Love how it sounds. I know some people on the forum think it's too loud... Some say they don't like how it sounds on these trucks... Out of every mod i have done this has been my favorite.

Every time i crank the engine up and i hear that sound it's money well spent!

My father has a dodge ram, brother in law has a Silverado. Both with V8 and both with exhaust upgrades. MY truck isn't sounding as loud or deep as there's obviously but Both of them also love how my tacoma sounds after i threw on the regular 40.

I didn't do it for performance... Just for sound.

Oh very nice! I think I might just go with the magnaflow kit. That way, everything is there and I dont have to worry about taking it to a shop to get welded or anything of that nature. I was waiting for 5k because I am going to take my truck into toyota for maintenance and have them fix everything. so was just going to wait for that because it will be little bit easier to remember than some other random number.

DapperDave it is a dual setup, I'm gonna post some updated pictures of my truck soon but i don't actually have one from behind at the moment, but the exhaust looks really nice IMO and its not too loud either, just makes the truck sound a bit more low and throaty and costs $300 less than the magnaflow does

True that. Do you know what the diameter of the pipe is? Also I wanted the magnaflow because I want a single side exhaust.
